Roots in DWC

Is it normal for cannabis roots to overwhelm the 5 gallon bucket and the air stone in it? Can you trim the roots? I have attempted to grow my plants on the smaller end but they tend to still get quite large roots. I am fairly new to DWC and it has been a learning curve.

You can trim the roots, unless it’s an autoflower. I wouldn’t try it with fast flowers either, frankly. It could make them flower from the stress. Anything else, yes, you can trim them.

      Well I appreciate the reassurance.

In my experience the bucket is always full by the time you have a nice plant.

Yes! That’s absolutely the norm. The roots will fill the space and wrap around the air stone(s) if it’s a healthy grow. The roots kind of become their own medium. The air bubbles from the stone will move through the root ball and be in direct contact with the roots. You’re good.

So Ive grown some strains that I let veg too long and the roots get so big they basically snuff themselves out , I just v the roots it helps and gives them more room to breath so to speak . The trick is to have a short veg well shorter than in soil
