Unorthodox Additives

Hey everyone, what’sthe weirdest thing you ever fed to your plants?

I eat and drink a lot of fermented and probiotic stuff, like sauerkraut, kombucha, LABs etc. I figure the plants might get some benefit too so today I thought I’d add a few drops of Beet Kvass to my veg plants along with my usual microbes, as today is my “Microbe Day”.

I’ve heard of people adding Kombucha too so I thought it would be fun to ask what other unorthodox or otherwise unusual additives you lot have experimented with.

I’m not trying to convince anyone to do as I do either. It’s just a bit of fun.

    Cheers legends.

I give my plants a shot of beer 1 week before chop, figure sugar won’t hurt at this point in time and they got to have a drink before they move on. Old farmer told me that

That’s fair, I’m a few weeks out I may have to follow suit at least one drink before the big day couldn’t hurt

This is a thought Ive never tried.

I remember as a child we performed a ‘science’ experiment in grade school. Simply put food coloring into the water of a bunch of harvested daffodils. As they take up water the color starts to show on the outer edge of the petals..

I would never use food coloring, but maybe beet juice. Curious to know if the deep red color would come through with continued use. Just the leaves? or might it continue into flower?, would you have blood buds?

Very unlikely it would do much if anything at all. It’d have to be done on cuttings of nearly finished flowers, just like with the old science experiment. The dye might not be able to get everywhere it would need to be to cause the color to change. Could be why you don’t see everyone doing it, I’m sure they would if it worked though lol. The plants can already produce some pretty wild colors naturally during senescence. New Millenium’s “Winter Frost” can really bring out those natural colors too but only the colors present in the plants genetics.
