Veg Temp

  • Posted by whitesagegrower on January 18, 2025 at 11:42 am

This is my first indoor grow. I’ve read a good veg temp should be high 70’s to low 80’s. My lung room has a space heater and sits at about 68. But at this point I can’t get my tent temp above 70. Will this inhibit faster growth or should I not be too worried? I’ve been thinking about getting the AC Infinity heater to bump it up that extra 10 degrees. I figure once the plants get bigger, and I increase the light intensity the temp will be fine though. Any input would be much appreciated.

The dreaded winter grows. I feel your pain. I tend to run 24 hr veg to keep temps reasonable in winter. From my experience cold temps tend to cause short plants because they never tend to get that vigor from higher temps. All you can do is try your best the plants will adapt and make harvest. Keep it as close to 75 as you can.

    Cheers

Nice. Thanks for the reply. We hit a cold spell lately but I’m staying steady at 70/71. I do notice the plants are very squat. Very small internodes. But I was assuming that was because my lighting is spot on.

Ideally you want the light fixture as close as possible without being too intense to limit stretch. Cold temps will slow overall growth and increase stretch during the day with colder temps at night. Warmer nights and cooler days can limit stretch. I’d personally want the environment warm for faster overall growth. Having the light a bit higher than I’d want is less of a compromise to me compared to letting the environment slow growth.

Get the thermoforge. I have a little space heater outside a few feet from the tent, without it I’ll run 50% and my temp will be 73-75. Adding the thermoforge helped a lot and it helps keep everything from fluctuating too much so at night yeah I’m at level 7 and it sits 75 at 60+%. I have to wake up before the lights and turn heat down. I haven’t set up the sequences on my controller yet lol.

Sweet man. Thanks. I think I’ll invest in one to keep my temps up. Both day and night. My night temps are getting to the mid to low 60’s. Not great.

Easy fix to raise temperature is to raise the light a bit and increase intensity. It’s ok to let the temp get up to 84-86F in veg the last hour or two before lights off to help maintain a higher temperature after lights off for those few hours.

I am in the same situation so I chose to put a small space heater in the tent. I position it to where the fresh air intake comes through. It took me some time to dial it in with the exhaust fan but so far it’s been working.

    I hope that helps.

I’ve done the same thing because I didn’t realize that my temperature was getting that low at night 58°. My seeds popped out of the soil on November 8th so it’s been around 11 weeks of slow growth but it all changed when I put the heater in and maintained a night time temperature of 78° and now I feel like the jolly green giant 🙃

Thanks for the reply. I would just worry about cooking things too much. What kind of heater is it? I guess if you keep it on low it would be ok and work in tandem with the fan settings.

I love my winter grows. -15f here now and as long as you are adequately prepared in your room/tent its great. During this time, its time to move your remote ballasts back inside of the tent along with your additional heat source. With the low rh it keeps my vpd at text book levels. I use a couple small usb fans above my lights and blow the warm air back downwards. My AC Infinity heater, I have it blowing on a couple of bricks at the bottom to store the heat better and warm the bottom. I have my light cycles so that daylight is during the night time to reduce heating requirements. I bundle up when going outside and I just make sure my rooms are set up properly as well.
