Tested RH in Grove Bags

A have some flower between two and three months cured and a recent discussion about Bud stored in Grove Bags got me curious. I ordered more of the small digital humidity/temp guages and checked a few bags in storage. The first bag that was cured is at around 64 degrees and 57% humidity. Grove bags are 58-62% so I stored flower is still right in the ballpark. I’ll drop a leaf in them next when current plants need some pruning. The amazing thing is that I accomplished this without buying a $1600 fancy drying/storage device.

VPD has become an issue in veg with dry weather. My humidifier doesn’t have tent probes and is a 6L standard room humidifier. I need to raise the VPD numbers so I bought a $14 4” duct Y and cobbled together houses from the humidifier to the tent vents. Adjusting the tent exhaust should pull enough into the tent to get up in the 70% range. If it works after some testing I will post a photo and a bit more about it.

Once plants can handle a full watering in the tent it will be easier to manage. I’m all about saving money and figuring out how to make things work with what I have available.

I do not use a VPD chart but pay attention to this table throughout the grow. This was likely taken from a VPD chart and if I follow it I can keep it close. I’m retired and can’t throw money at things.

Another essential tool that comes in handy. A lot of soil growers don’t PH their water but my RO well water can vary enough to throw things off. Right now it’s a consistent 6.3 but I still check PH on every jug I use. I just want to be on top of it. I couldn’t function without keeping an eye on PH and sometimes adjust it based on targeted nutrients. If nothing else it keeps my retired mind busy.

Grove Bags have limitations. I use the 1/4 lb bags to store trimmed nugs. Put them in at 60% and heat seal the bags. Stored them in a 60 degree basement with 30% RH for three months. Buds had serious CO Crunch going on! I now store my Grove bags I a 2×2 with a little ACi humidifier. Problem solved.

Mine only need an occasional leaf from one of my live plants to stay hydrated in storage. Mine have been curing for three months and the full ounce bags are still at 57%.

Imagine that it’s 1970 and you just came across your first brick weed. Stems, seeds, dog shit, bugs. I have come a long ways since then but I’ll never be a perfectionist about it. Nothing is broke, why fix it?
