Go 4×4 if you can fit it. I started with a 3×3 and now I have 2 4×4. One for veg and one for flower. Where are you located?

I just started buying stuff not knowing what I was doing or buying none of the stuff matched and eventually pieced it all together to where now 6 years later I got a killer 5 tent set up! 3 flower all different spectrums. 1 veg tent that is a 2 in 1 tent and a drying tent. Never have all 3 flower tents running at same time but some clones I have prefer different spectrums.

I’d say the best bang for your buck would be to look local for a second hand set up. I always am seeing set ups online. Well maybe not always but here and there. I don’t really look for them though. I’m sure you could find a decent set up for that price from some one who tried growing and either didn’t like it or didn’t have success and is getting rid of it

Under 500? Better off skipping the tent and using a closet, put that budget on a light. 500 will give you a cheap tent and weak light that will burn out in 18 months, and thats small 2×4 space if lucky. Just fyi, i have seen many homes burn because vivosun over the years. Cheap isnt usually good.

I started with spider farmer, they are on the weaker side. Mine lasted just over 2 years. Had to crank it for proper ppfd and coverage. Not bad for a start though. But thats just light, tent or area, exhaust and fans for fresh air and gas exchanges. Heaters, ac, humidifier, dehumidifier to keep your enviroment correct. Its possible, but not going to be a quality lasting set up. See a lot of beginners cheap out, do not so ideal harvest, then get mad and throw it away or upgrade. Start correctly from the rip and it pays off first cycle.

Mars Hydro has a TSW2000 4×4 Tent Kit for $480. Has a 300w light, 48″x48″x80″ tent, 6″ iFresh Smart Inline Fan w/carbon filter, a clip-on circulator fan and a bunch of accessories. I’ve got the same light, it’s been a good light for me. I got the 4″ model of the iFresh inline fan when I first got a tent and still using it. I like the clip-on fan too. Mine has been running 24/7 for over a year now.

Tents and lights are not good places to go cheap. Both are kinda key components, so you should try to think about the long term and invest in quality stuff that will last you a few years. Like thickems suggested I’d be tempted to skip the tent and spend the whole $500 budget on a nice light and ventilation setup.
You could also probably nicely outfit a smaller tent on that budget like a 2×2. (Gorilla lite tent, an ac infinity led and ventilation bundle would be my suggestion). That would help ya get started and then you can scale up from there. Start with a decent 2×2 setup now and then that can become your veg or mom tent later once you can afford to expand.
