Dry or liquid nutrients for outdoor porch plants?

Gotta couple months left of nice weather outside here in Minnesota. I’m thinking about throwing a few quick autos out on my deck in 3-5 gallon fabric pots with 70% Roots Organic Original, 20% castings and 10% perlite. What are your thoughts on whether dry amendments or liquid nutrients would work better? Given really dry spells where supplemental watering may be necessary, should I use liquid on a regular timed feeding schedule over dry? I have Botanicare grow, bloom, cal/mag and sweet liquid nutes, Gaia Green 444 all purpose and 284 bloom as well as Grow Dots. I’ll also be using recharge once a week regardless. If I experienced a couple of weeks of excessively rainy weather, is that going to flush out the Gaia or Dots prematurely? I appreciate any help y’all can give me. Happy growing and SKÖL!

I’m also in MN.. I don’t know the answer to the question and I’m kind of curious too as well I’m learning.. I know on my autos I always run liquid because they finish so fast. Seems like sometimes don’t break everything down or have time to and use it up.. dots are grate just when there finishing fast. I’m not sure if they get everything they need by trying to break down the process. I’m interested to know.

Depends how much effort you want to put in. Liquid nutes will flush out, can dry up creating salt build ups, more attention needed. Dry ammendments, growdots wont flush out as fast. Easy top dress to take any edges off. The biology will establish and do most the work. Mulch layer can help with moisture and breakdown. Either way can be a success. With your supply i would use grow dots mixed in. Use gaia weekly small top dress. Water and recharge. Being 5 gallon these will need frequent checking. Can probably touch in a splash of the bottles if they are lacking, that will give them a more ready available source.

I don’t want to sound like a walking advertisement for these products but I used the Growdots and recharge on my outside plants this year. (First outdoor grow) I am in ground but used the application at 7 gallons. Mix the grow dots in the soil and then just water. Once a week hit with the recharge in a watering. My 12″ plants put in the ground on June 1st are now 6′ tall and I’ve topped them.

This plant (White Widow (F) is in about a 7 gallon pot. I think this one was transplanted into this pot from a solocup on June 8. It is 60% Promix, 10% worm castings and 30% coco. Growdots extended at 7 gallon application rate.

Very cool thanks. Since I became a DGC producer I’ve felt almost obligated to at least try the Dots and Recharge. 🤣 Just started a couple with grow dots a couple weeks ago and all of them have been getting recharge for about a month. Based on just 2 replies so far, I think I’m going with to go with dry amendments. Probably 2 with Dots and 2 with Gaia Green. And hey, if you believe in grow dots and recharge as much as it sounds, go right ahead and be a walking billboard! Happy growing.
