First Grow, Fighting SpiderMites

doobthenewbParticipantDecember 8, 2025 at 2:57 pmI got some clones from a friend after i got my tent setup, it’s a 2×4 with 2 plants, GDP and Blue Dream, The BD was already 3-4 weeks old and the GDP was 1-3 weeks behind. I had some early PH issues until i got a proper tester and stopped using strips. Got some good growth after fixing ph and felt comfortable flipping to flower with how much the GDP caught up and couldn’t afford for the BD to get bigger. Flipped to flower and discovered spider mites on the BD. I had been spraying weekly with spinosad and had diatomaceous earth on the floor. I sprayed with spinosad and the next day I started used a puffer to spread diatomaceous earth throughout the canopy, ripped off the most infested leaves, I found it early, only slight webbing down the spines of a few fan leaves, none between the fingers of leaves.
My question is how do I know when I’ve won? I’m not finding any new webbing, I’m still seeing mites, idk if they’re dead. it’s been 3 days so I may be impatient. I’ve got wettable sulfur coming to spray down with in 2 days. gonna use mammoth from now on. But it’s make or break cuz I don’t wanna spray once bud sites form, it’s win or scrap the grow and reset.

Not going to be the answer you want to hear but I bet it will be the common response… Reboot. Starting over, even from seed will be easier then fighting a war for your first grow. Best part about seeds, no bugs.

Found them last thursday, if i’m not confident they’re gone or see them after friday i’m scrapping for sure.

In my old house I had majesty palms I brought in during the winter. I constantly had spider mites in the room they were in after. I had carpet in that room and would think I got them, then boom… Webbing. I never bring in outside plants without a strict quarantine now bc it was such a PITA. I use a small ozone machine in my tents between grows now as part of my sanitizing process. I would start over personally, so sorry that happened, big bummer but it will absolutely be greater later 😉💜

if your gonna do a clean sweep . the only effective chemical is 90 RUBBING ALCOHOL,
it doesn’t harm your environment and KILLS ON CONTACT, *******DO NOT BREATH IN********
it will do harm

Sulfur will do the trick. Lights off and spray 3 times 3 days apart. Remove as much foliage as you can especially the dying leaves. Spray under heavily and don’t hit your leds with the sulfur it can damage them. Make sure you don’t use any oils after using sulfur they don’t mix. The plants love the sulfur and it will destroy the mites. 2 tbs per gallon shake well during the spray.
Vpd doesn’t kill mites…

One more thing . I wasn’t clear how far along in flower you were. I don’t use sulfur after week 2-3 in flower. Hit them mid veg and at about 1 week into flower. The pm and mites will be forgotten. I’m telling you it works like nothing else. I have an arsenal of pm products and since using sulfur I haven’t touched the others and it’s super cheap.

Spoke to a local grower/mentor and he’s gonna hook me up with some mammoth, gonna try to save it. I’m skeptical, but i don’t have any budsites yet.
