Fungus gnats

My whole house is full of fungus gnats. I saw the guy from build a soil on your show and purchased some WDG3000 which is supposed to get rid of the gnats. My question is, what is the proper quantity of WDG3000 for say, 5 gallons. I guess I should go straight to the source but what harm can asking here be? Maybe it will help someone else too.

  • Sorry I dont have any experience or feedback for you but im definitely curious. We have a small farm and its almost impossible to keep all gnats gone. I would love to try this though knowing the reputation of Build A Soil! Thank you for asking and hoping to learn more as well!

  • 1tbsp per gallon. Mustard seed meal will help too. I used them in combination, 2 doses and havent seen a gnat in 3 years.

  • I virtually eliminated my fungus gnats by re-potting all the plants that I could with clean media, putting a sticky trap in every pot (this is default for me anyway), allowing media surface to dry longer between watering, as well as placing basil and rosemary plants among the rest of the crop. Not sure if one thing had a greater impact than another. (Gnats seem to actively avoid the rosemary, and only slightly more tolerant of the basil.)

Over the course of about month I went from sticky traps that were nearly covered in gnats within days of being placed to traps that have only 4-5 after several days.

  • Keep the surface of your media dry and they’ll have no place to lay eggs. No eggs, no gnats.

    • This.

It is what stopped my issue with gnats.

  • Keeping the top of my soil dry is not an option as a no-till organic grower in earthboxes.

    • Certainly is able. Let your res dry before topping off. Dont put a cover or mulch.

  • I struggled with fungus gnats. Tried most of everything for control. the solution that works for me is to have constant air circulation for the under canopy. I have a Wind Devil fan in the center of the tent, pointed at the floor to provide upwards, and outwards air flow. I havnt had a single gnat since I started with this undercanopy air circulation.

An added bonus is that it will move settled CO2 around as well
