governmentssuckParticipantJuly 22, 2025 at 12:51 pmAnyone have any advice on growing a plant strictly for cloning. Would you top it? I plan on keeping it in veg and using it for a mother for a year or so. Royal Queen Seeds – <b itemprop=”name”>Lemon

I’ve been cloning for 50 years. That just means I’m old not correct but my prize most vigorous clone was always the top. I just didn’t always want to take it.

Mother plants can be shaped to fit any space. Worst thing you can do for the long term viability of a genetic is to let it get rootbound. Root structure is plant structure. I would never keep a mother plant for more than a few months with replacing it. About 1 gallon of soil per month you want to keep a plant in a pot. 3 gallons, 3 months. 5 gallons, 5 months, etc. Lower branches do not make for good clones because of their stretchy structure from lack of light. Not a good start. You want to clone thick stemmed tops for best results.

Thank you for the advice. I’m in Ohio and I’m looking to grow in my outdoor 10×20 greenhouse for as long as I can keep the temps up in it. Going to be adding heat and light as needed. I have 2 plants started indoors now.

Do you know if they intend on adding a thumbs up feature to posts. Would be a great addition.

I have been taking a couple clones of a Bubba Kush when plants are in veg. We have a four plants in flower and four in veg limit and I have small tents. What I do is one way to keep them going but anyone with a bigger plant count probably isn’t going to fiddle around with one or two at a time.
