Get a handheld microscope that you can connect to your phone so you can check trichomes. It’s worth the small investment.

Def take a look with a loupe or scope, but ive learned that when I feel it’s done, give it another week…especially when you are new and excited. Unless you’re getting TOO much amber for your liking.

So man this is a really hard question to give an easy answer to. But, I always give people the same basic advice. This comes down to a personal preference and what you are trying to achieve. If you’re making hash, you will want to pull on the earlier side of maturity. If not.. then you should be in a good window once all your pistils have died or hairs have turned brown(even better if their died back fully). But, this is very strain dependent. If you really want to dial in your flowering times you take a branch every 4 for a 2 weeks. when you think your plant is at peak ripeness. Dry and cure them, smoke them and see what time is your favorite. Then on your next round of the same cut you will know when your favorite time to pull is. For me I am always way later then anybody I know but I am looking for a specific affect. You can also use a microscope for sure. 60x loup minimum. But if your don’t know what mature trichomes look like, it is really hard to spot them even with the best scope. Like fruit on a tree different parts mature at different times you need to find the window that works best for your needs. Good luck and enjoy all your hard work:)

Why the 48 hours of darkness? This has been dispelled as bro science long ago. Not hating just curious if you have anecdotal evidence for doing it.

48 hours of darkness has positive effects and is not just bro science. The TERPS, doing it for trichomes that’s bro science. You take a girl at the end of her life and give her cool dark tent for a day or 2 before chop and she will smell so much better. The light and higher temps cook off terps. The dark period allows the plants to put them back and not have them evaporated again.

The plant stops producing chlorophyll during that period as well. To me it makes for a smoother smoke, but 🤷

I honestly can’t wait for the science to catch up.

I’ve had some excellent herb that burnt down to the finest white ash (at times, could be a very harsh hit)… Other stuff that was so smooth but black charcoal lumpy ash.

Temp, cure, humidity, darkness, etc… 🤷‍♂️

The second those terpenes volatilize they’re gone my friend. Can’t put that back into the bottle that’s just it. The idea is that during the dark period gravity and r-capillary action pull excess nutrients and moisture out of the stock and stems and move them back into the root zone where they become microbe food.

It may be useful for faster drying. It also may not.

i think 24 hours of dark is cool if you want. I think 48 hours is not doing anything at all. Keep your temps and humidity down in the last 2 weeks of flower and consider cutting out an hour of light as well. (Not increasing it) That will be the thing so save ur terps.

I’m here for the education, not bashing.

If they smell more after the dark doesn’t that mean more volatilaztion?

Is 2 days enough time to trigger less chlorophyll?

I harvest right before the lights on or in the dark outside. Depending on what I have going on, they can go up to 24 hours in the dark inside. I do it just so the plant doesn’t start producing chlorophyll.

Nice looking ladies! Is one of those Harlequin? That’s one I hope to get my hands on. My goal right now is to find decent tasting cbd mixes. I’m injured with pain & nerve damage and having been using cbd/thc products I’ve come to really appreciate it. Besides the pain it kills the anxiety I’ve become prone to in my 50s when I smoke. It’s different & not as intense but is my prefered type of high now. I can only find one strain of cbd /thc flower

Within 30 miles of me & it’s 2:1 CBD heavy. I’d prefer the opposite, 2x thc to 1x cbd. Also since Im the only one buying & it’s pre-packaged the flower is old dry & bland. Is your harlequin from seed if so whatbreeder? If it’s a clone is it commercially available?

Yep!! We chose Harlequin because my wife suffer from Fibromyalgia and myself from anxiety. The higher CBD levels are very therapeutic to me, and because of that it’s a strain that’s been on my wife’s radar for sometime. However we’ve never been able to find it in the dispo…

we grew from seed, genetics are from Seed Supreme

I think you have quite a few weeks to go.

    I would’ve guessed week 4/5

    What strain are you running?
