i talked to a team member at phive8 distribution “jug dealers” about my dying plant and he felt that root rot was the problem. after further inspection the roots look fine. just a ton of gnats. could fungus gnats cause this???
At this point since they’re so prevalent where I live I just mix in some mosquito bits as part of my normal top dress/dry amend and keep yellow traps for monitoring and I haven’t seen them in a very long time. Mosquito bits contain BTI its a bacteria that eats the larvae before they can even hatch. So I don’t really even care if I see an adult in there anyway.
I’m going to have to get some mosquito dunks and start running water with one of these in it to kill the larva. I’ve got the stickies for the adults and the zappers. Which tend to audibly tell me when something has been removed. Nematodes to kill the larvae don’t seem to be working for me.
I`ve been using a mosquito dunk in my 5 gallon water bucket for months.
Just tie one up in a old sock or small mesh bag and throw it in your water bucket and never worry about them again. You can take the sticky traps up as you wont need them any longer.
Change the dunk about every 45 days and your good.
A rancid smell from the media and roots will tell you. It’s undeniable if it stinks like rot. Hard to get the smell off your mind and out of your nose.
