green-gigglesParticipantSeptember 20, 2024 at 5:17 pmI’ve dabbled with making my own herbal tinctures in the past. eg. Dandelion and Cleavers Tincture for their medicinal properties. I make it by simply placing fresh material in vodka and letting it steep for a month or two. I use it by placing 10-15 drops under my tongue.
Im interested in making a THC tincture, which would have the psychoactive properties as well as all the medicinal characteristics that cannabis can provide. My understanding is that HEAT is necessary in any type of production of cannabis for THC to become available to our bodies.
If I were to heat the freshly prepared concoction, would I not burn off the alcohol and be left with a tar like oil? How long does heat need to be maintained? Should I heat it up, then immediately let it cool before it would ever reach an oil like nature?
Im curious about making my own cannabis medicine that needs not to be smoked.

I make a lot of RSO and I usually use 190 proof grain alcohol to wash the flower about 3/4 a fifth to an oz of flower.. then simmer it down in a bowl using an electric skillet at about 160 F When it’s close to being done it’ll start bubbling or foaming up the product is going to set thicker when it’s cooled .
After jarring it up i clean the bowl with the 190 and save that leftover for the next batch.. nothing is wasted that way… I’ve thought about building a small still to reclaim the alcohol also but haven’t went any farther with that idea yet

The only time you need heat is to decarboxylate your flower/trim. I make ice dragon tincture, which is super easy to make and use. Here’s the recipe: https://emilykylenutrition.com/qwet-tincture/

How to Make a QWET Cannabis Tincture
Made with frozen cannabis flower and high-proof grain alcohol, this tincture produces a lighter colored, less-intensely flavored cannabis extract.
