Questions around next run

    Hello Growmies,

About to start my third run and will be switching over to grow dots and recharge as well as moving to coco. I am hearing that cal/mag can be an issue with coco. Will using good washed coco with calcium prebuffered keep me from needing to add additional through the grow? I’ve also really started liking Fish Shit , added in my current run. Would you all recommend alternating between FS and recharge or using at same time? Thanks for any assist, can’t wait to start my next run , current one at week 13 so just waiting on trich’s.

Week 13? Whatcha growing?… if you already use soil and are used to the watering habits of soil, I would recommend to just stay with a basic soil (not loading with nutrients) and just mix the growdots with that. I am currently having an amazing run doing this. I didn’t want to make the switch to coco because it requires a bit more watering, especially if you’re trying to dial a specific moisture level. I love soil and so do the microbes in both recharge and fish shit. I would alternate and maybe dial back as you see fit. Great products but if you have an established population less can be more. Hope this is helpful in your planning.

Thanks for this insight , was also tossing that around as well. I really do like the promix I’m using and my autos seem to love it too. As to the 13 week olds….monster mutant auto doSiDo at almost 5’ tall…

I made the switch from sphagnum moss to coco with 30% perlite and, “I’m in love with the coco!” I’ll never switch back after my most recent harvest! I found the root growth to be far superior in my side-by-side small test experiment and made the change instantly. Cheap coco is where you will run into Cal/Mag problems. Buying coco that is washed and buffered is what you want. There are many brands that are made for cannabis. I use Happy Trees Premium Coconut Coir, but there are many good brands out there like Canna Coco. I had zero Cal/Mag issues throughout 9 and a half weeks of flower for a large Notorious THC plant that I was extremely happy with both the roots and fruits, and I credit a lot of that to listening to YouTube videos of the DGC show and the positive results I was seeing/hearing about. It’s great for seedlings if you don’t over water. The color change it makes when wet and dry makes it easy to determine when to water and makes it easy to teach. Over watering is probably the biggest mistake new growers make so if I have to have someone come over and water my gardens it’s easy to teach them how and when to water/feed. I absolutely love it and will use it until something better comes along. For me and my grow style it just works so much better for me. Hope this helps you out with your decision.

I use fish shit and recharge together on the regular. Do which is ever convenient. It doesn’t matter if you mix them.

Sounds like, you are well on your way to becoming a (theatrical voice) “MASTER GROWER!” 😂 on the real, I would keep a little cal-mag on stand by. Doesn’t even have to be the military grade Cal-mag. The normal stuff will do. Only advantage of the military grade, I think they add flavorings in those for us crayon eaters.

Okay, all jokes aside, coco (even the most expensive) will eventually need a cal mag supplement. Perlite is great for coco, especially in plastic pots. Only issues with perlite is how it can interfere with the cation exchange capacity. CEC is just a fancy word for how the nutrients leave the soil and go to the roots… has to do with positive and negatively charged stuffs… all really fancy. Keep us posted, and happy growing dude!
