Best strain for chronic lower back pain?

  • Best strain for chronic lower back pain?

I have sciatic problems. I typically drink beer to alleviate the pain some. I want to switch to cannabis. I currently have a very low tolerance. Everything seems to make me sleep for long periods of time.12+ hours. I recently found some edibles that I can get up after 5-6 hours. But I have to just take a half. My plan is to use these to increase my tolerance while I get my grows going.

I have 2 clones each of OG Kush, Pink Kush, and Honey Cream. Seeds I have coming are 10 Candy Runtz autos, 5 Willy’s Wonder photos, and 3 White Widow photos.

I prefer growing in my own soil mix.

Best strain I ever found for my back pain is VB Ghani. I’ve had 4 back surgeries and am fused as well. Ghani was the only strain I could smoke and actually get up and walk when opiates did nothing. Everyone’s system is different but give some ghani a try! Good luck, I really hope you find relief!

My only surgery was in 2012. Double discectomy, probably spelled it wrong. All 3 of my lower left discs are slipped and herniated. Where do I find that strain? Would love to test it out.

I would highly recommend finding which terps and stuff work for you. Generically most find relief without drowsiness from Blue Dream. Branch from there if it works for you. A dispensary helps here because you don’t have to wait 4+ months to see if it works. One of the best strains I have ever smoked for pain relief is Dr Who and it kicked in so fast. Find your top three terps then focus on those strains. Don’t be afraid of CBD strains either like Harlequin.

Interesting. I will have to try it. Thank you. I don’t really know how to go about testing turpenes. Small naps are ok, it’s just the 12+ hours that don’t work for me. The beer helps me sleep but also wakes me up a few hours later.

To test terpenes for yourself you would need to know the terps in the strain, focus on heavy outliers such as Blue Dream which has a stupid amount of Myrcene in it. Then you have Sour Diesel which is Caryophyllene dominate. You try these different ones and eventually you will land on your terps for your specific relief. Where a dispensary helps is they typically list the strain terps in percentages (grain of salt). So you can buy small quantities at a time to see if it helps. Let your body pick its medicine.

You are welcome! Leafly can help too if you at least know the name of the strain.

I second the Blue Dream for daytime. It’s one of those strains with 2% CBD in addition to a THC content over 20.

2012 Purple Haze numbed my whole body.

JR’s Dits Amazing… not a strain but a rub. Hits stenosis and nerve pain better than anything I’ve found yet. Heavy indica’s as well for smoke.

Look for terps that help reduce inflammation.

    1. β-Caryophyllene

    • Strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects via CB2 receptor activation.

    • Found in black pepper, cloves, and many cannabis strains.

    2. Myrcene

    • Sedative, muscle relaxant, and analgesic properties.

    • Common in mango, hops, lemongrass, and indica-dominant strains.

    3. Linalool

    • Anti-inflammatory and calming effects; may reduce pain sensitivity.

    • Found in lavender and some cannabis varieties.

    4. Pinene (α- and β-)

    • Anti-inflammatory, bronchodilator, may reduce pain and inflammation.

    • Found in pine needles and rosemary and many cannabis plants

    5. Limonene

    • Mild anti-inflammatory, mood-enhancing; supports other terpenes’ effects.

    • Found in citrus rinds and strains.

That said, here’s a few cultivars to consider:

    1. Critical Kush (Barney’s Farm)

    • Type: 100% Indica

    • THC: ~25%

    • Dominant Terpenes: β-caryophyllene, α-pinene, linalool

    • Effects: Deep body relaxation, muscle tension relief, sedative

    • Ideal Use: Evening or nighttime

    2. Blue Dream

    • Type: Sativa-dominant hybrid (80% Sativa / 20% Indica)

    • THC: ~19%

    • Dominant Terpenes: Myrcene, β-caryophyllene, α-pinene, limonene

    • Effects: Balanced cerebral and body high, suitable for daytime use

    • Ideal Use: Daytime

    3. OG Kush

    • Type: Indica-dominant hybrid

    • THC: 20–25%

    • Dominant Terpenes: Myrcene, β-caryophyllene, limonene, linalool

    • Effects: Potent body high, muscle relaxation, sedative

    • Ideal Use: Evening or nighttime

    4. White Widow

    • Type: Indica-dominant hybrid

    • THC: ~15%

    • Dominant Terpenes: Myrcene, β‑caryophyllene, α‑pinene, linalool

    • Effects: Muscle relaxation, anti‑inflammatory, moderate sedation

    • Ideal Use: Evening or nighttime

    5. Runtz

    • Type: Hybrid

    • THC: 19–29%

    • Dominant Terpenes: β‑caryophyllene, limonene, myrcene, linalool

    • Effects: Pain relief, anti‑inflammatory, uplifting euphoria

    • Ideal Use: Daytime or anytime you need mood lift without heavy sedation

Those have all done well for me and my spine arthritis. But there’s so many I have yet to try! Good luck.

Happy to lend my opinion haha 🙂

Sounds like you have some good picks! Willys Wonder is new to me. I’ll be looking that up for sure with such a fun name 😂

I’m a huge fan of any Runtz lineage. Not too heavy but definitely helps take the edge off. Good growing ✌️

Willy’s Wonder is from Nukeheads. As are the other strains mentioned. Should be shipped tomorrow.

Basically anything that leans indica will be stronger for pain relief. Usually higher THC and terpene strains will help with that out of shear power.

I know a dispo bud tender isn’t helpful. This routine works for my arthritis but I’m 67. Morning Durbin Poison- It’s more of a mind F–k than pain relief, fantastic but it only works once. Smoking again doesn’t work for me. Then I move to Super Lemon Haze, it’s also a mind trick but does help with pain. A few one hitters {micro dose} through the day, of Future #1 until bedtime. Buba Kush or Northern lights are my go-to then. My first thought to you was RSO’s are the answer. IMHO RSO is stronger and more effective than oxy.

RSO is probably too strong for me. I may try to make some and see.

What if what you need is not a strain but a balm. Our own J.R. Tokin makes Dits Amazing Cannabis Rub. Sells them $35 S&H included in that price. I suffer from pinched nerves up and down my body. I have an auto immune disease that attacks my joints and spine. I doused my left side where most of the pain occurs. Head to toe I rubbed the balm in. Maybe 20mins in my stabbing and sore pains were tingling! I slept 12 hours straight. I haven’t done that since I was in my 20s. Check it out. You can message JR here. Tell him what’s bothering you and he will hook you up. You can also get a Cherry Paloma cut from him. DGC swears by J.R.’s Paloma cut. Send him a message. He will take care of you. ✌🏼☝🏼🤟🏼

Thanks. 12 hours is too long for me to sleep. Seems like anything I try to smoke puts me down hard. Same with most edibles. Wondering if it is due to being relaxed. I can only sleep 3-5 hours at a time. 4-6 if I drink a few beers before bed. Hoping to find a couple strains that will provide relief without the drowsiness. I will have to look into the Cherry Paloma.

I got a new strain from Katsu seeds. Chocolate Fog. The description states :

Chocolate Fog (Dracar Noir x Saturday Night Fever)

Dark chocolate and some Trinity funk. Narcotic high. Not for the casual smoker. This is a couch lock strain for smokers with a high tolerance.

We will see. I’ll keep you in mind if the description holds true. Also, if I find something else that cuts through the pain enough to allow sleep.

        Stay strong. ✌🏼☝🏼🤟🏼

I’ve got a nice AC/DC ready for harvest in a few weeks. I grew out a small cut of her and was definitely impressed with the relief. I can’t wait to harvest a full plant. Luckily enough as I read the comments I have a blue dream auto that will be ready soon as well.
