Cannabis & Coffee

Now, I know I can’t be the only one that loves a nice cup of joe paired with their morning smoke!

    BUT DID YOU KNOW…

The cannabis plant also loves coffee? Well, the grounds to be specific. Adding coffee grounds to your soil can have great benefits as they are a good source of that holy trinity…NPK. The grounds are better than beans because simply put, they’re easier to use since they’re ground up & soft which will allow them to mix with soil/compost & water much easier. The grounds act like a pre-made nutrient packet.

Adding the grounds to compost which is then added in your soil is the most beneficial way to utilize the grounds. However, you can use them directly as a soil amendment as well. Just spread a thin layer on the top of your soil at the base of the plant, and it’ll enhance the microbial activity. To avoid nutrient imbalances I’ve heard it’s best to mix the grounds into the topsoil 1 part grounds to 3 parts soil. DO NOT OVER-APPLY! You can also make a coffee tea by using 1 cup used grounds in 1 gallon of water and letting it sit for 24-48hrs.

I sip and have to walk away to the bathroom. Coffee interrupts my morning session lol. Well one of them at least 🤣

The only problem with coffee in the grow room is, is that you end up leaving your cup in there.

I do have a empty coffee container in my kitchen just for coffee grounds and egg shells for my composting and add it to all of my old soil from my grows and it works great.

When I started growing I pulled in too much responsibility… Started a worm bin too that I’m sure is slowly dying and that is where my fungus gnat infestation is centered around. I think the worms are dying and the gnats are eating the worms.

I just put too much on my plate and I think I’m better off buy the materials with the time a vermicompost takes to become a viable and useful setup… I heard it can take 8mo-1yr to get established in the communities I had joined and this caused me to sort of lose steam… You mean its going to take 3 plant harvests of work to even become useful? I don’t even know if I’m going to be homeless so projecting out 9 months for some worm castings seems unrealistic to even think about.

I am a coffee roaster first and foremost, just dipping my toes into cultivation on a serious basis. There’s little better in my world than a cup of light roast Ethiopia Guji Natural and my morning Cannabis. ✌️❤️☕️🍪🚐

I’ve heard that affectionately called a “hippie speedball”. Love it.

I don’t like using coffee grounds for indoor plants. if you are in living soil fine. everything else it’s better to get it to the compost first. the nutrients in coffee grounds aren’t plant available unless some microbes or fungi brake them down first. and often people just get molds in their grow when they use coffeegrounds. if it works for you fine, but in my experience there are more cons than pros
