Darkness before harvest

  • Just be careful for your lights out humidity spike for that long of a period that late in flower.

definitely a good call for sure

Yes, very cool stuff I could be a fly in his garden just hanging out all summer into autumn.

  • Hey thanks for posting! This is a great topic so I’m going to add it to the WHEEL OF GROW TALK on the 420 Happy Hour so the crew can discuss it on a future episode. Tune in and check it out! https://www.youtube.com/@DGCHappyHour/streams

  • Jug dealers did a great show on sugars recently. How they move, what they do, what is involved. It has made my past week research to understand it all. Im not the best with words but science evolves, studies happen, things get outdated, or proven more than myth.

  • I hae tried the 48 hr darkness, imo bro science. Then I followed.Rasta Jeff and returned my lights to 18/6 last 10 days of flower. Flower bulks up more.

interesting. My question would be, that energy that the plant is using to create more plant matter, does it take away from its ability to mature the tricomes that are already there?

      Something to think about

  • You’re supposed to do 48 hours of light at cool temperature…

Dr. Bruce Bugby did a segment on this.

“We dont have any evidence that helps” – lol

Seems like hes going off of principal. I agree it wont make any new tricomes but 48 hours from harvest its not likely to make them anyway. What we want is to finish the tricomes that are already there, not produce new, immature tricomes. This all makes sense in terms of the normal growing timeline, but the point is the last 48 hours before harvest.

Not to slag on your post, it still just sounds like bro-science. Thats why i wanted to find some numbers

      • I definitely run with lights on.. it’s staggering how much extra growth you get at the end of you give it as much light as possible and really “push the plant” like he says… Because I’m going to reveg anyways I run the last week at 16 on 8 off then the last 72 hours is just as much light as possible and cut the watering so it’s not full of water when you harvest, brings out the sticky icky… 😉 It gives the plant something like 60 extra hours of light in the last 10 days… Plus it only takes me 2 weeks to flip back into full veg… 3rd bud run, plant is over a year old…

They look killer! Nice tricome stacking, what is the strain?

Revegging is something i havent tried, but it seems like a better way to get clones off of a particular pheno, rather than cloning everything before you set flower. Over a year old eh, thats cool. I wonder if after a certian amount of cycles it might express more of a natural perennial genetic trait? To push the plant into the perennial space would be quite a genetic feat.

  • Harvest cannabis during the middle of a dark period when the plant’s internal plumbing is not pumping water through the xylem. This will prevent guttation and possible mold. Harvest when the trichomes are at the stage of development you want. Most of us want to get high so we want peak milky white ripeness. Clear trichomes will be high in the cannabinoid precursor molecule CBGa. Opaque milky while trichomes are high in THCa/THCv/CBDa, etc. while degraded trichomes full of CBN will be amber. First thing to understand is the plant/branch does not die at harvest. Putting your plants in the dark, before putting your plants in the dark make sense? When you chop a branch/stem, it takes several days to die. So they are technically still alive in the dark after harvest for 3 or so days. Anything you smell at any time is lost. I better not smell a fucking thing when I walk in my dry room full of bud. It’s too cold in there to volatize compounds. Any time of the day where you can smell terpenes coming from your plants means they are losing them, not gaining any. If you smell them more in the morning than at night means your room is too hot in the morning. Heat volatizes terpenes and is the number 1 variable to understand at harvest.

    • I usually place my plant to be harvested in the drying room the end of the night before. It then remains in the dark 60/60 until I chop it sometime the next morning.

  • Scotty posted a vid last week about how to get better terps. He said 48 hours of light at end helps ..and then Bruce BugBee kinda saying the same thing ,Im more likly to try 48 on . I been going with 18-6 for last 10 days .. Ill see if 48 on does anything .

I wonder what running 18-6 for 8 days then 48 light right at the end does? anyone tried it ?

I guess what is stumping me is, if it takes say 6 or 7 weeks to go from clear to cloudy, and the clear heads are filled with CBG which is non-psychoactive…..why push your plants under even more light, to create tricomes that will never get you high, at the same time producing more plant matter that will have to dry. Just dosent seem worth it. By weight, you are only decreasing the concentration of mature tricomes because you have all this extra plant matter.

  • Did about 24hrs of light before my most recent harvest, first time trying it! Was hoping this will add to the flavor of the smoke.
