Who cares? Not me. Why are you counting days like it’s on your schedule?
-
New grower trying to keep better records going forward.
-
No data you collect growing from seed has any relevance towards future grows from seed. You can collect data on a photoperiod to dial in future cycles but not an autoflower that’s one and done. Collecting data from an autoflower grow is pointless.
-
Yes but I’m just learning how to grow and trying different soils and learning about environment. Trying to dial in 3 different tents in 3 different locations and learning how to grow. Ran into a lot of problems with my 1st run. I figured it would help learn keeping a grow diary.
-
I’m certainly not trying to discourage you from keeping detailed notes. My only point is, testing the efficacy of anything requires controls and variables. All you have is variables with no controls growing from seed. What if you put a runt seedling in the best soil mix and the most vigorous sister in the worst mix? You’ll blame the best soil mix for producing less, when it was the runts fault the whole time.

Why would you need to know? Never trust breeder estimates, trust your eyes and the trichome heads to judge ripeness.
-
i count days too… i count day one the minute it breaks the soil.

Makes sense to me. I was thinking when it developed it’s 3&4 leaves. Which seems to be about the same this run. Just went right in soil with the seeds, and trust the process.

im kinda in a routine. i plant on a Wednesday, i try to get mine to sprout on a saturday, so i can plan my weekly activities on a saturday. i keep a grow log on Grow diaries. i post on day 0, 1, 7, 14, etc.. i really just count weeks. I never go by time when deciding to harvest.

For auto’s, I wait two or three days after it’s sprouted then start counting. Photo’s I start counting after the first week. I don’t really do photo’s inside though and no point really in counting when outdoors.

day one is when the lil lady pops above the soil and says hello world lol
-
Day 1 for me is flip day. Depending on how many plants I’m running in my scrog, my veg time might go anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks.
-
I try to remember to count day one and use it for a rough estimate when plants will finish. I factor in two transition weeks from veg to flower and add two weeks to the breeders estimate for ripening at the end. No hurry to veg and finish, I let the plants decide. Lately I’m taking clones in veg so the calendar is just a suggestion.
-
I count day 1 when it pops through medium. I keep detailed grow diaries with weekly photos. Growing a strain in the summer and winter indoors has even fluctuated by three weeks. I’ve only grown one strain that finished even close to stated timeline. Going back looking is good info. Time is the one thing that’s not proven useful.
-
Day one of the run is the day the seed touches water. So I include the germination process. Many don’t. And it’s when seed emerges from soil after germination, which can vary in many days depending on a handful of factors.
The other day one is when the light schedule changes for flowering cycle.
-
I take note of day one on my grow log and use it to plan feeding. With organics I keep track of how long nutrients will last in the pot size I’m using. If I’m up potting I need to keep close track of dates to formulate my transplant schedule. I have to decide how long I’m going to veg and revise the schedule on the fly if I change the veg time.
I can think of a lot of reasons to note day one. I forget things easily at 73 and have literally forgotten what strain I germinated by the time the tap root appeared in the folded towel. If I didn’t take note of day one and have that starting point it would be like flying blind.

When you gets a lot of shiddiz going on you look at weeks, not days, plants are slower moving than animals, funny thing is in french a week is called semaine wich stems from « semence » meaning seeding or seeds…

We are allowed four plants in veg and four in flower. With those small numbers of plants every one gets an ample amount of TLC. Losing one can have a big impact.
