I am a 73 year old veteran with titanium plate and screws in my neck and a rare treatable form of blood cancer. Currently I’m doing two days of treatments per month with two to go.

I’m still active but get kind of tippy after treatments for a few days. I use mostly the front half of a 3×3 and a 2×4 so I can reach with doing a nose dive into the tents.

Things that have helped me are wheeled plant stands with built in drip trays. My room is setup and organized with that all in mind. I use soil and top dress fertilizer and hand water. The type of lymphoma I have causes neuropathy but I do my best to keep hands and feet moving. Yard work for the body, playing guitar keeps the fingers moving.

With the right planning and setup it can make things easier but it sucks coming home from chemo and having to work in the garden. The self sufficiency makes it work the extra effort.

The homemade nursery and the crowded grow room. I just planted an Emerald Fire OG and a Grandaddy Purple directly in five gallon pots. They’re 75-84 days autos. Just turned the humidifier on and it’s 100% rain snow all night and 80% tomorrow. Furnace will cap off the top end humidity and current humidity in the tent is over 40% and should be mid 50’s later today. That’s the best I can do in a space not much bigger than Clark Kent’s phone booth. Seedlings will get plastic domes and a humidity probe under one of them to monitor. DLI and PPFD set for seedlings at 24/7. I pop in a few times a day to monitor the room (a retirement luxury).

Humidity under the repurposed Gatorade bottles aka seedling domes is 71%. I was a bit late getting the humidifier going starting more plants after a two month break. I control humidity manually so it will sometimes dip below target for a couple hours.

My humidifier is like six quarts and not designed for growing. The ones that sit outside the tent and have a hose going into the tent cost 3x more so I had to compromise. The downside is that it has a timer that sets at 2-12 hours. That requires more work on my part but I don’t have the big bucks for all the latest gadgets. We make do with what we can afford and get good results.

Yes it can be a hassle being an older grower. They don’t take me seriously in the forums and I’m invisible at grow store events. They run over to the customers looking at lights tents all the time. Not so interested in guys who need soil or fertilizer that are older than their grandparents.

What other people do and what other people think. When I 1st became disabled, it bothered the crap out of me. But my sickness will not kill me quick so after 20plus years of it, you get a tolerance that turns into screw it I don’t care anymore about what they think or do.

You still viewed and treated like homeless but

          I don’t care No More 🤣🤣🤣
