Do You Even Chart Bro!?

    Whaddup DGC!? I’m interested to hear what everyone does to track/log the data important to them in their grows? Are you a diary person? Calendar? Apps? Whiteboard? I personally use a variety to track all of my data. Along with the Controller AI+, I have an erasable monthly planner board that is right outside my tent, along with a grow diary that I use to track daily measurements & notes. I also utilize the “Grow With Jane” app on my phone which allows me to thoroughly log everything and keep it saved digitally. In addition to those, the final thing I use is a small notebook just to jot down charts, notes, recommendations, wants/needs, etc.

    Maybe what I do is too much for some, but I do believe it’s EXTREMELY important to do some kind of logging/charting to keep track of your current grow & the progress and/or any issues you might experience/have experienced. With this being my first grow I’m trying to log as much data as I can. That way– in the case something goes awry, I’ll be able to look back and see what I’ve changed and/or what needs to be changed.

    So DGC…Let’s see/hear all of your methods to track your grow! Drop those logs! Hahaha(poo humor)😅

    Great topic for conversation. I use an old school notebook. I’ve often considered geeking out in excel but that feels too much like work.

    I have a notebook I write in with more detailed notes. Amounts, temp/humidy, maintenance and just overall plant details. This was on an episode last year. My answer was to take better notes with more details all around so you know pretty much everything. Spread sheet would be a lot nicer looking but ehh. Just a grow log written but to each their own if you have the time and good at excel or just creating a basic word doc.

      I have a chromebook from 2010 that’s barely alive…I’d use that for excel if it were worth a damn. Definitely want to upgrade any maybe get a Microsoft Surface so I can surprise the wife with something she can use for her drawings and other artwork too! Only problem I have with pen/paper is going thru so much damn paper!

    I’ve been using the note app on my phone since the beginning. Pictures, feedings, thoughts, shit I’ve learned, do’s and dont’s so I can apply that knowledge to the next grow. I’m always looking to add something each grow, either process or equipment. This grow it’s all about supplemental lighting and gravity fed auto water pots from spider farmer, also first time using grow dots and recharge!

    This year I got one of those family calendar/planner things. A column a plant and the days and months are already in there. last year I just had a sheet of paper, with the calendar it’s easier to see how long ago it was I did something on a glimpse rather than having to check what date I’ve ritten down and checking what day it is today and calculating the differnce… they are quite cheap and I have no problem getting a new one every year, of course you can get fancy expensive ones or DIY one for nothing

    I do this. The squares are 4x4mm. It’s a small journal. I’m going to use a pocket diary from now on, and keep the squared one for thoughts about Life, the Universe and Everything.

    I downloaded a grow log sheet off the internet and print copies when I start a new grow. It’s a soil grow with dry fertilizers only a few feedings during the entire grow. Basically to remember what I have and haven’t done. There is no online or WiFi, just paper and pencil. Gardening is part retirement hobby so I want to be down there caring for the plants, hand watering and feeding. Math, science and fancy gadgets don’t do much for me. I grew up working on farms and like the gardening and hands on approach. Retirement makes that possible and I know that kind of old fashioned gardening is not for everyone.

    Those of us who grew up on a farm tend to be more traditional gardeners. People in big city high rises with no lawn to mow or veggie garden tend to be the chemist and math major types. Guys like me who hoed rows of tomatoes they couldn’t see the end of in 100 degrees tend to be more traditional type of gardeners.

    If one has never helped bale hay in the hot sun they won’t understand.

    I use the classic notebook for years and still do. A few years back I also added white board calendar and love it. It is mounted next to my grow boxes. Its super handy to add notes to then at the end of the month I snap a picture and keep them in a specific album. Big fan of white boards!

    I also created a Discord server to use as grow logs. It also makes for an easy way to share and collaborate. So far that has probably become my favorite way to document my grow. GreenCogVariant on discord.

      I use a calendar app with different color codes for different things. Different strains, start dates, different for water or nutrition ect. And I plan on there too when to flip, expected harvest ect.

    I realy should get serious about the notes…Iv done none for years, but the photos help a little to remember thing, instead of writting online i should also do desciptive reports on my various seed lines, cause those seeds are next to useless without, i dont know where to start… but writing comes easy only once and a while;
