I’ve spent at least a Third World college tuition on pH devices in my 30+ years and I’m gonna tell you that litmus indicator a.k.a. the drops are just so so so so much easier than a pen.

You grab a sample, sprinkle a couple drops, if it’s as yellow as piss you continue onto water, if not you adjust retest and bobs you uncle

PH pens are at least twice as much work. It’s simply an unneeded technology unless you have a stock pot with live monitoring And a pH probe. In any other case, it’s vanity to use one, a real pro will bang out an eye dropper faster than you can take the cap off your $200 pen. Also a $10 8 ounce bottle of indicator will last you like 5-10 years and you don’t have to charge it or calibrate it , that and the indicator will stay active in the sample for 24 -48 hrs incase the pH walks you can real time monitor the color shift.
