Possible Deficiencies?

    Hello Growmies,

Looking for some help here as a newbie. I have some older leaves yellowing and getting brown spots, so it appears I might have a deficiency, but I am surprised since I was using grow dots and recharge. Last grow went pretty well so I am not sure about this one. Using pro mix, worm castings, and gd and recharge as previously stated. Do I need to add something else? Looks like possible cal-mag or k deficiency from charts but didn’t think I would need to add anything else using GD.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Are you able to check ph of run off

  • I was having a similar issue also using grow dots and recharge the ph I was watering with was 6.5 but when I got a soil tester the soil PH was about 7.4 so I lowered the ph to 5.3 and within a week my soil ph is 6.3 and I’m no longer seeing those same deficiencies you are having

    • I am having the exact same issue. I wasn’t PH’ing my recharge. I hope that turns out to be my issue. Thanks!

      • Unless your pH is ridiculously alkaline or acidic, the microbes will be fine. They’re soil microbes, not water microbes. Don’t leave them in water. Mix and use right away. The small volume used of Recharge solution is not going to change the pH of your media.

  • NEVER post pictures of just leaves. There is no context. We need to see the plant and where the issue is on the plant. Random damaged leaves say nothing.

  • Sorry bout the leaf photo as I was not aware. Hopefully, this photo is better! Just learning this stuff but trying to get better each grow. Not disappointed in my first round but didn’t encounter this problem.

  • Your ph is off.

  • Thanks for your inputs. The pH could be off since I haven’t measured it in a while. It was 6.8 -7.0 before so I figured I was okay and just trying to keep it simple. Soil is still 6.8 to 7.0 today. Do I need to get it down closer to 6.0? I thought the organic soil tends to level everything out to 7.0?

    • Next time you prepare your medium add 1/2 to 2/3 of a cup of dolomite lime per 3-5 gallon pot.

You can top dress it in as well, it just takes a week or two to start working.

This will help keep your PH closer to neutral at 7 and works over time 4-6 weeks.

It also a good source of time released calcium and magnesium as a bonus.

  • I’m wondering if this could also be over watering? If your roots can’t breathe they can’t process nutrients properly. <div>

Assuming you are in new soil, and using the dots and recharge properly I would be hesitant to assume a PH (microbes should be regulating this in the rhizosphere) or nutrient deficiency. Not saying your PH doesn’t matter but these plants can operate in wide range of soil/water PH with out major issues.

What was the ratio of worm castings to soil? In my experience castings are great at retaining water. If the mix was heavy handed with castings I could see the soil being easy to over water, with a reduced capacity to hold the proper amount of air.

Also, what is your environment like?

Hope your girls bounce back soon.

  • Since you’re using grow dots , your nutes should be there. I would check out my ph. You may have an embalance. Try plain water around 5.8 ph and see if that helps. ph is important when using synthetic nutes and grow dots are synthetic.

  • This is another example of my ignorance. I grow in living organic or super soil. I threw away (sold ) my Apera ph pen after my third grow in organic soil. The recharge and microbes take care of my ph, so I never worry about it. I used to struggle at times when I used GH imputs growing in coco. To make it even easier I use an “earth box,” that also eliminates my watering mistakes. As easy as Scotty’s sip bukets. Look down a pipe no water add water…easy peasie.

  • Ensure you arent over/under warering. If you say your ph in the soil is 7 thats perfectly fine. Dont go throwing all kinds of this and that trying to remedy the issue. Thats a great way to further complicate the issue. I would have said PH as well but 7 is fine. Also quick question, you say this is the exact cultivar you ran before with no issues is that correct?
