I’ve been growing Carolina keepers for years as a table top house plant. I’ve cloned it a couple times and grown out in a tent. But have never gotten the flowers to fruit out. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. But I’ve always grown peppers outdoors. Does anyone know if it’s a nutrition problem, light issues?
Plant always looks healthy.

I give you the Jalapeño bush. What was supposed to be 7 plants ended up being 9 in a 5 gallon sip pot. Stressed and trained with little defoliation. On par with any I’ve grown before and better than a lot I’ve grown. Really good flavor and heat. Grown in %70ish back to basics soilless potting soil from Walmart (I think it’s 80/20 coco to peat) and then add black cow mushroom soil and perlite at 2-1 and throw in some worm castings and soil acidifier. (Need to buy some recharge before I try this on an auto run.)
Overall the yield of each pepper plant a
has been a little lower by week than I believe they would if they were in their own pots, but the overall production is still pretty good. Over the last 3 weeks Im averaging about 3 good size peppers per plant per week. quality is consistent across all plants except the sacrificial plant. (which is currently doing its job so I won’t be trying the 1 pepper on it. )
IDK where I saw it but the idea of the plants taking care of each other when they share a roots was really intriguing to me. The idea is that it makes it harder to overfeed or overwater and easier to correct deficiencies as they can also borrow nutrients from each other. It effectively makes them all on bush so you can use a single pot rather than have to use a raised garden or garden. Significantly saving space.
Cons:
- You can’t forget to water. The dry back is soo fast.
- If it wasn’t peppers idk how easy pest management would have been outdoors. all I did was spray peppermint dr. Bonners mix on everything but the sacrificial plant.
- It’s basically one big plant so if mess up 1 you mess up them all when it comes to feeding, or disease.
- lower individual plant yields.
For real though guys thanks for getting me back into gardening and for creating a community that encourages people to try things and come up with ideas instead of saying “this is the way and the only way” you guy (all of the Real DGC rock.)
they look overwatered cuz they are. It’s rained for 6 days.

@Littlelakephil420 Growing inside without natural pollinators, you’ll likely need to hand pollinate. You can use a small paint brush to move pollen to the lady parts.

All the normal vegetables, lots of carrots, corn, peppers, and tomatoes along with milkweed. Milkweed is the only food for Monarch butterflies I believe. I know they need it. I then use the milkweed flower fiber as a wind checker for hunting. It’s much better than the puff bottles. If anyone would like to try some, message me, and I will send you some. Or if you’d rather have the seeds to plant your own, I have them too.
