What’s the best way to reuse your soil? I’ve always dumped it into my compost bin and use it on the lawn. Im curious if you go through and take out all the roots and just use the remaining soil or what? And do you amend with anything? Thanks for any advice.

      • What I normally do is I’ll either leave it in the container that it’s in like the earth boxes I use, or I’ll dump the soil into a 56 quart tote. I’ll remove the root ball and then add all the amendments in going to use, make sure it’s moist and I leave it for 3-4 months until I need it for the next grow. I’m that time the worms, beetles, predator mites and millions of other microbes and fungi will colonize the soil and break down all the nutrients. When I plant my plants into it in 3 months time, they’ll have everything they need available at their root tips.

I rotate about 50 gallons of soil. Every 2 grows, I take out a gallon or 2 of the soil and replace it with fresh peat and perlite/pumice. You don’t want the soil to get too dense with broken down organic matter. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I’ve been perfecting this method for about 3 years. Now I just add water once or twice a week and watch them grow. I haven’t even checked pH in 1.5 years.
