I’m now out of necessity building out a basement grow room rather than a tent.

Fortunately, there is already some subdivision. For a house built in the mid 50s, that was excellent luck. The room is 80 in tall or 6 ft 6 in by 12 ft wide. I plan to use mylar to seal up however many feet are advantageous for me to do so given my existing equipment that was bought for a 4×4 grow tent. In short, I don’t want to have to go out and replace hundreds of dollars worth of equipment that I just bought. Can someone share the math with me that will allow me to calculate out the amount of usable air I can move so that I know how big I can actually have the space be with my carbon filter? I may also need some help with engineering air routes in and out as I plan to completely isolate this room from the air of the house above, and to fully vent all filtered exhaust.

        • And for lighting I have this already. I’d like to get the full 8′ by 8′ with it if I’m able. BESTVA 2024 Upgraded BP4000 LED… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QKBYV6J?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

            • Lastly I have more than 25′ of room to play with. I want to make a small efficient drying area at the very back of the room, as small as I can make it but still be able to dry 5 whole plants at once .

After that, is the grow room and future potential aquaponics lab. Outside of that will be a prep area where soil is made, cuttings have a surface for clones, and a desk and a computer. This last area also has the only exit from the room and house that doesn’t involve getting under the house itself.

              • Through that panel to under the house is where I want filtered exhaust to go. There is one very small head high narrow window, but in rain it leaks or floods and has to be closed. I’d love to use it for fresh air coming into the room because that’s the growing area. I want to be able to fully cycle all the air in the room one to three times a minute. I’m concerned about how I do that if I can’t rely on the window. I could passively pull air from the house, but that defeats the complete Atmosphere Separation I’m hoping for.

                • That’s the plan I came up with. It has a few points for sure where I could really use the advice of someone with more and better understanding of the engineering involved than I possess.

                  • I built my grow room and here are some unexpected learnings/random thoughts.

Mylar sheets reflect but they are thin and you can actually see through them despite the mirror look. If you aren’t going to use your tent, try and repurpose that material. You don’t lose much painting super bright white.

I used 6 mil black plastic to seal. It is thicker to reduce a lot of accidental punctures. I think I got a 10×250′ roll at home Depot.

I wish I would’ve insulated everything + ceiling. Temp control and noise maintenance.

I have an 11×11 8ft tall room. I have an inline adjustable 6″ exhaust fan going through the roof. At 75%+ speed it creates negative airflow for the room. I will upgrade to an 8″. Don’t know the airflow at the moment.

Plan ahead for AC or heat… Humidity and dehumidifier (do you have access to a drain?)

Paint the floor bright white but don’t use paint with sand it.

I’ll try and think of more
