Phew! I just ordered the last of the equipment I need to fully outfit my grow room! I got a programmable heater for winter, a programmable dehumidifier rated for about 3x the size of my entire house, an aeroponic cloner that can hold 24 clones, so I can make clones of my favorite plants for my friends, an herb drying rack, a meter that will do ph and ppm measurement of the run off, ph up and down, and 2 Titan Garden Trays!

In 3 months, I’m due for a bonus from work. I’m seriously considering expanding my Real Buckets at that point so I can do a proper pheno hunt. I figure that means I need at least 10 more to bring my total up to 16.

The one thing I worry about is how well the system will scale. I don’t fully understand the physics involved, so I’m wondering if I can get one enormous reservoir, or do I need to order at least 2 or 3 more reservoirs as well as additional buckets? I mean… It’s not like I don’t have the space! I’m also wondering what the footprint of this will be in terms of size. Like, I know it will fit, but do I also need a 2nd light at that point? I have a BESTVA 2024 Upgraded BP4000 light. But my ceiling is so low, at 6′ 6″, I’m worried it won’t be able to do an entire grid of 20 buckets (16 grow, 4 reservoir buckets). The light is only $300, but I was hoping to add some lights to give me far red and UVA, UVB, and UVC light.

Now I just need to build a frame to hang netting from to be able to SOG or SCRoG my plants. So basically I guess I need a few pine two by fours

      • @scottyreal I’d love your input!

        • You like, supplying a dispensary? If not it seems like a crazy amount of investment for 16 plant pheno hunt that could happen for free outside next year lol. And also you should talk to someone more pro than me but generally most HVAC equipment you want sized right, too large is just as inefficient and bad at the job as too small.

          • @frogslayer No no no, not at all! LOL

So, I’m not trying to grow out 16 plants at a time, at least not fully, but I was told that the bare minimum number of plants for a “proper” pheno hunt is 16. My assumption is, that half will be male. Most of the time, I’ll kill those. When I finally find or breed something that’s just absolute fire, then sure, I’m sure I’ll want to make seeds, but even then, at most, I’ll need like, what – one plant for that? Maybe two if I decide I want to make seeds and clones available to folks? I’m kinda interested in eventually opening my own seed bank. I think seed banks are cool.

So really, It’s more about being able to look at the plants and ruthlessly kill anything that doesn’t look amazing to me, you know? If I start with 16 and I finish with 4, that will be more than enough. Depending on the strain, some plants can produce as much as a pound of weed, and I can’t imagine I’ll ever need more than 4 lbs of weed personally. The rest of the time, I can grow veggies in the winter, etc. Or use less of them when I’m not pheno hunting! The buckets don’t need electricity, so I can run as many as I want. LOL

OH! And, I bought seeds for a CBG strain. I can grow those without them counting toward my limit anyway, due to no THC production. Lastly, unfortunately, my place isn’t quite big enough to grow outside. The requirements to grow outside in Illinois are onerous, to say the least. I don’t want to put up a 2nd privacy fence inside my backyard. It would be hella ugly and would take up a shit ton of space, so I’m kinda stuck growing indoors.

          • Have you grown before? Sounds like a lot of work and money invested me
