With the recent post about about gun rights I feel compelled to share a long, sad, super relevant story..

A little over 4 years ago.. My nephew, who I helped raise and was like a son to me, split up with his girlfriend. His friend offered to let him stay with him while he figured things out. Knowing his friend sold weed he took his guns to my sister’s house for safekeeping, afraid of catching a charg if the cops raided the house. Sounded like a responsible decision, I was actually relieved when he told me. SMH.

Fast forward 2 weeks… Things are going ok. The boys leave one night to go to Walmart, leaving the friends pregnant girlfriend, mother, 16 year old brother and my nephews new girlfriend at home. While they were gone one of the worst possible scenarios started playing out.

3 teenagers (15,16 and 17) burst through the door armed with a 9mm. They chase the mom into the bathroom and beat her unconscious, quickly. The pregnant girl is on the couch freaking out. They demand weed and money and take her upstairs to the safe, they had obviously been here before. Upstairs my nephews new girlfriend is asleep, they pistol whip her awake. Open the safe and there like $80 and a quarter oz. They demand more, one of the intruders goes downstairs to search the house. At this point my nephew and his friend get home.

Entering the house they find mom crawling out of the bathroom, bloody from the big cut on her head. The downstairs intruder runs through the house and heads back upstairs. The friend grabs his gun and chases him, firing a shot up the stairs into his leg. A few more shots were exchanged and the friend was shot in the head. He was in a coma for a few days before he died. All three run down the stairs. When the first one came down my nephew hit him with a police baton (the only other weapon available). The guy stumbled but then turned around and shot my nephew in the head and once again after he was on the floor.. Saddest day of my life.

They were caught and convicted of murder. Sentenced to life in prison. Too bad life doesn’t mean life, they will get their first parole hearing in 17 years. I hope to live long enough to see them released….

I can’t help but wonder. If he had his guns would I be chilling in my grow with him instead of writing this shit?

              • That’s horrible, so sorry!
In 2002, my brother was shot in the chest and died just feet away. Someone knocked on his apartment door and when my brother opened the door the guy shot him point blank. I will never forget getting that call or going thru the apartment afterwards, or the weeks of re-living everything in court. The guy got life with the option for parole after 18 years and that was recently denied. I miss my brother daily so I feel ya there.

                • @mr-green-fingers Sorry to hear that. The court part is so bad. Some images just never go away… We started court when covid hysteria was in full effect and it took over a year to really get the whole story. Total shit show… It actually took so long in the court they were trying to get the charges dismissed for not being a speedy trial. SMH.

                  • @ohigrow Wow, what horrible timing for court. I can picture everyone spaced apart with masks, what a mess! Yeah, there is nothing speedy about murder charges, they drag their feet and show you pictures your trying to forget. Horrible! I am glad they were charged and hope they never see the light of day again. I also hope bubba found him in prison. 😊 They say what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. 💪
Right after I lost my brother is when I got into beekeeping and that did wonders for my head. Something magically about working with thousands of bees and being in the moment. I hope you’ve have found peace!

                • Better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. BUT, he did make the best decision lawfully to a point. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. And that’s horrible. Condolences.

                    • Horrible event, I stopped carrying because I had a subcontractor basically attack me while I was sitting working on a hose bib. It was the closest I’ve ever come to using my gun on a human. The feeling did not and hasn’t sat well with me. For me I don’t want the worry of carrying. I fully support those who choose to carry it’s just not for me.
