I’ve been listening to the show for about 4 months. Definitely my go-to cannabis podcast! I put it on every time I’m in the grow room. Awesome job by everyone on the show.
I’ve used Recharge before I knew about you or the podcast and I was pleasantly surprised to see the man behind the magic! I’m now interested in using grow dots in my indoor grow, and I will be using them in my first outdoor grow this coming year!
I have been using liquid nutrients, most recently Emerald Harvest, and I’m tired of mixing water.
I’m running 2 mother plants and I cut clones using Root Riot plugs in an AC Infinity clone dome. I use a 70/30 buffered coco coir mix for my medium. I have a 5×5 veg tent and a 5×5 flowering tent. I’m trying to harvest half my flower tent once a month in a perpetual harvest. So my questions are:
- Whats the minimum pot size to use? ~10 days after I cut them i will tranplant into their final home and veg for 4 weeks.
- Do I need to PH my water?
- Do I need to add cal-mag or anything other than Recharge as recommended?
- Would adding a bloom booster or carbohydrates (like molasses) be beneficial?
Thanks in advance for your help and any tips for using growdots would be appreciated!

Number one, I would transplant the clones into a small half gallon or 4 inch pot for solo cup first. So much easier to not overwater when the pot is small. Let it fill that out first then move to a pot size that is congruent with your goals. I personally am using 3 gallon pots. If you really are going to plant them only once and keep them in the pot at least go a lot smaller than 10 gallons. Or be real sure that you only water the plants and not the pot. Easier said than done. It’s good to know what the pH is of your water starting point. Even with recharge every time. I still keep in the range between six and 65 pH. I always add cow mag. Two mil per gallon. My water comes in at zero ppm. It’s cheap insurance. careful with your bloom boosters! Don’t get crazy and fuck shit up at the end after all that work. Sometimes at the end of flour, I will use molasses to pH my water. It takes the pH down really quickly. So be careful if you add molasses to anything. Make sure to check the pH. I don’t really know if the molasses made any difference with the actual plant. Guru suggested that it was a waste of molasses. And I have started to stray from the habit.

@sunny I’m currently using 4” pots first. I’ve been growing for a few years and though I’m not the best yet, I got the watering down. I have just started learning to clone within the last 5 months. I was cloning straight into coco in solo cups but just recently moved to the root riot plugs to try things out. I typically just use 3 gallon pots when I plant from seed through flower. I’ve been experimenting with different size pots for flower with my clones and what I think I’m going to settle on is 2 gallon pots. I would plant the plugs straight into 2 gallons and then veg for 1 month. My concern though is 2 gallon pots may cause the roots to get bound. My water PH comes in at ~7.3 and is 900 ppm. It may be bro science but I know when I use molasses that the buds have a different, sweet smell at the end of flower.
Thanks for the help and sorry for the late reply. It’s been kind of hectic with work lately. Part of the reason I want to use grow dots. I would rather spend time with my plants than mixing 15 seperate gallons of water when I get off work lol

Never supplement cal-mag unless using RO or see an actual deficiency.

@jmystro alright thanks. I’m running well water and typically just run cal mag 1 watering per week. Not that I’m seeing any deficiency, but because everyone says to run cal mag lol. I’ll quit using it for a while and see what happens. I may have enough in my well water as it is. Thanks!

@smokie-herbario Antagonism hurts performance but not always to the point that most would recognize. You can have perfectly healthy looking plants that are nowhere near their actual potential. Calcium is the absolute last element you ever want to have over abundant. Calcium antagonizes 7 different elements. I delete the add more cal-mag comments by ignorant new growers who have no business giving anyone advice.

@jmystro I’ll have to look into antagonism. I knew about toxicity from nitrogen etc. but not antagonism. Soo much to learn lol. I’ll cut out calcium. My well water comes in around 900 ppm. I’ve heard the guys on the show suggest getting water tested so I may have to do that and see what minerals I have in my water.
