I searched for this in the seeds I bought. I knew I was growing indoors so I wanted a short plant expression with low internodal spacing. This sometimes makes the plant difficult to train it also makes for a good plant to grow indoors. How frosty the buds are, resistance to disease, Size of the overall plant and flower, Color expressions, Flavor, smell, which goes into terpene expression, how much THC or CBD is in the general resulting flower etc etc. All are things that people would look for but what each person wants may be different and why you get that generic… Well it depends on what you want.

I’m a new grower as well but I put a lot of thought into all of this as I want to get into breeding for personal/medical use.

Not all Cultivars are super loud also, I grow in a closet with 2 fans and while sometimes I get a whiff of my plants from my bedroom they smell of sweet citrus and my neighbors say they can’t even smell my grow through the paper thin walls to their bedroom. While the windows *can* open its winter and I currently do not have them open so there is no ventilation in my place at all currently.

I do however have a standing floor fan and a table/desk tower fan providing air circulation. Air circulation is what is important to prevent stagnant hotspots in both your lung room and grow space. So consider what cultivar you want to grow and if it smells super strong, If it doesn’t then you might be good without ventilation but you should have something cleaning your air to prevent spreading spores around if they exist.

I recognize I need to build my own room scrubber in the future to prevent such things in my grow!

Honestly I may be wrong for this but I just use tap water. I can’t afford all the other fancy stuff for the water. Granted my City tap water is supposed to be some of the best in Canada.

I’ll definitely have to consider some UV and IR supplemental lights that run on timers like this.

I personally don’t like IR in the main lights because the SF kit I had came with it built in and more control over it seemed better to control the heat in the environment.

To add to this you probably want to snip the #1 branches off so energy is not “wasted” on these. On my plant these are the smallest branches in comparison to the rest of the plant. I can see why people say to snip them now that I’ve grow a couple plants.

I absolutely love it. This my friend will likely yield 1 marijuana. Autos can be sensitive. If you wish to learn the art of LST I can teach you what I know. I am always learning and autos are so fast that for lots of training product leaving it on for weeks equates to leaving it on for days for an auto.

With dry amendments like Gaia Green organics its based on soil mass and nothing to do with Cultivar. I’d think grow dots are similar.

Ah I see… Its one of those things that when I flip to amazon.ca you can’t get that item. There are other inexpensive ones though. I’ll have to keep looking into these devices later on.

I think you mean Feminized Photoperiods ;). One thing you need to be aware of is the longer the plant is alive the higher chance of something undesirable happening to the plant. One of the reason autos are nice is that you get a quick turnaround and thus have a less chance of your plant getting sick or infected with pests during a later stage while its taking a while.

I started with auto flower plants because it felt like if I treated the plants well I’d get to harvest with high quality bud in a decent timeframe. It is more difficult to setup a *good* photoperiod environment in my opinion. There is just more things you have to do.

A lot of growing will kind of be a lot of the same choice. Synthetic vs Organics each have their own pros and cons. How much control do you want versus how easy do you want your growing experience? Synthetics are true control over the nutrients the plant is getting but you need to be ready to diagnose a lot and do a lot of work. I wanted it easy so turned to organics, Where I follow a simple feeding schedule. Adjusting it based on what I hear others online are doing as well.

Whether you do a lot and defoliate a bunch of leaves or you use training clips and tie downs. Your type choices in the type of plant you pick and the nutrients you use change your optimal choices. You can do different things with a photo period than you can an auto. On the other side training might happen in early flower on an auto but you wouldn’t dare do that on a photo period, you would do the things you need to do before flipping to flower.

is that a DLI sensor? Honestly I just use my phone. But the light you have is seriously the best on the market for 2×2 size when it comes to board style lights.

The silver spray is how they provide feminized seeds. Otherwise I’ve no real world experience in this other than the revelation I had and shared earlier about semi-auto and fast flowering seeds.

It sounds like what he is saying is in line with what I was saying as well that the plants that show auto traits get labeled autos and the ones that don’t but flower faster get labeled as fast flower, Both of those require a Semi-Auto that could produce phenotypes of each type and its not until you start solidifying further down the breeding line that you stabilize those traits through selective breeding.

I want to do breeding for personal reasons to find my own awesome cultivar with the effects that work best as a medicine. I happen to enjoy growing autos for various reasons but looking into it all has been quite complicated.
