I’m back again LOL my first time growing autos so I might be on here with a few questions. Today I want to ask about leggy seedlings using a new light didn’t have it positioned right so I got some very leggy seedlings. Now that they are autoflower, I germinated them and planted them straight into their final pots. I don’t have a whole lot of room on top for more soil so how do I fix them without transplanting them into deeper soil? I’m new learning about it but what about silica can I top dress with it and will that help? Thanks for all the replies and info everyone been very helpful

You could stake them if they’re falling over. If they arent then dont worry and and just try and fix the light. Try dimming if possible and getting the light closer, or even just closer if that’s what they need.

@Newleaf that’s what I did I turned the HPS down to 50% and moved it 24 in instead of 48 in at 75%

Air movement.
Can you add more medium or are you at the top of the pot?

@goodguycanna I was an idiot and only left about an inch for extra soil on top I’m only using two gallon pots

@KindBudzNDankNugz if it’s small enough still, scoop it out and lower it down?

@goodguycanna I’m just waiting until they fall over and then covering half the stem with soil, two of them fell over already seem to work pretty well. I fixed my light and have two small clip fans circulating air they are doing well

I stick a piece of garden wire next to it and create a loop at the top to support the stem. Always fix the issue, but this will keep her upright until the stalk stregthens.

@Phyto2theEndo I usually use sections of plastic drinking straws I cut them vertically and then put them around the stems but I’m not sure if they’re at that point yet

@KindBudzNDankNugz my thought on that is that you want airflow to move her a little without blowing her over. This forces the stem to thicken up to support herself eventually. Usually only a few days. Mine gently bounce against the support wire when the fan oscillates over her.

I will use a bread wire tie for support.

Good to always allow a little extra space in the pot. With starting seedlings fill the pot a little more than half full.
If they stretch you can fill the pot the the brim.. I’ve even mounded worm castings high above the rim for the reachers. Planning ahead for possible circumstances is key to being ready for anything. By monitoring your seedlings growth you can sometimes catch the leggy ones and correct the lighting before they reach too much.
The plant wire staked and make the loop around the stalk is a great way to keep the reachers standing.
I use the photone app to measure the ppfd of my light. It may not be accurate but I’ll take what ever number it gives me and use that as a reference. I find my phone Samsung 21 S+ or whatever it is.. the photone app is accurate enough to dial in my lights. 200-300 ppfd for seedlings is what I aim for favoring the lower side then creeping the intensity up 200 on up to 300.
The seedling stage is the best time.. thoughts of the future and all the time ahead of you to care for the plant. Enjoy! Happy Growing!

@SkyHighRoots I was thinking about mounting the soil that should work a little bit. I do have the ppfd meter on my phone I downloaded a few days ago,I’m at around 250 now
