Just picked up a uv c lamp to help with tent cleaning and home cleaning. I know UV has been brought up to help with terpene production but came across this article researching uses and this now has me more interested for combating molds and nasty unwanted pests etc.
My only initial concern during a grow is killing off helpful microbes – which doesnt seem likely if they’re in the soil below mulch.
I like the idea of avoiding bud rot and pm, then after the dry to kill off any bad stuff in flower. I know this light can be harmful so likely will run some experiments as I grow.
Anything I’mnot thinking of? Thoughts?

UV-C Light: Enhancing Cannabis Post-Harvest Quality and Yield — Covspect
There’s a lot of online hype on how to deploy UV-C in cannabis cultivation. Many cultivators focus on mitigating powdery mildew and…

Was thinking of adding one to my system. Do you have it running in tandem with your main light or on a separate time schedule? Thx

It arrives today. Just researching for those recommendations. From what I’m seeing so far C is mostly for cleaning. They’ve recommended 1 hour for household general cleaning. For this application I was thinking 15 min a week without plants to start. Still researching so these are just initial thoughts on what I’m seeing.

Dang I always heard uvc is bad for the plants heck of a lot bad. I wouldn’t do it it will kill terpenes and thc and your plant even. You really shouldn’t use it on anything you count on finishing just til you get it down. Once you get it down I bet you’ll have unlocked the secret to no bud rot or pm. It’s so cool the quests we get to go on.
Good luck I bet it’ll work though. You hear about remediation on bud so it passes lab tests after it is grown. They put that bud through extremes. This is like that but not nearly as bad I would imagine. I’m excited to hear the results
Uvc light is dangerous stay safe and take into consideration dna mutation from exposure in the plant and don’t let your skin be under the light it causes cancer.

@farmville My understanding of them is that they injure the plant which causes an increase in the production of trichomes.

Everything I’m seeing is not a long exposure if I remember – a/b lights recommend 2 hours in flower – just can’t remember if that’s a total/weekly/daily

Most definitely interesting and safety. I may take a seed of a vigorous cultivar and just isolate it and follow a small dose regimen. One benefit I was surprised about was the insect defense aspect. I’ll share back the experiment results. It might inspire me to pop some seeds soon after this reorganization project.

Here’s another article – still high level but covers some good overview info

Alright. Uvc is for cleaning and killing things. You can add it to your water bur only through a uvc water filtration system. You really need to look into the article that it is citing sources for weed plants. They are different than strawberries and spice seeds that the first article referenced. Also the second article is specifically for uva and uvb. There really is nothing I’ve ever heard of uvc in cannabis plants. It will kill your plants and degrade trichomes. Scotty on the videos of DGC said uvc stands for us Cleaning. That’s how he remembers it because that’s it’s only use.

We say C stands for cancer, not cleaning. All UVC, most UVB and a little UVA is filtered by our atmosphere. If UVC reached the surface of earth, life would not exist. UVB will give you sun burn and cancer over time. UVC will break down DNA/RNA, killing all life. Like fungi. Fucking morons who can’t get through a harvest without fucking up will use UVC to try to pass fungal tests for mold and mildew. Using UVC automatically tells me you’re a shit grower.

Have one but haven’t used it in years. Has a remote with a timer so you don’t expose yourself. I only used it between runs to sanitize empty tents… These days, I just spray micronized sulfur in veg.
