Triple G – Day: 67 – 2 strain
Genetics: Triple G x Big Skunk Auto
Seed Type: Autoflower
Indica/Sativa/Ruderalis: 80/15/5
arsixx, dab_marino and 5 others-
I have not seen the percentage of auto listed – do you think it’s accurate and what does it tell you? @scottyreal @Dude @jmystro

don’t know what you mean ,it’s auto or photo

Breeder is saying only 5% of the autoflower genes (the auto trait) were passed while 75% of the lineage is indica and 15% of the lineage are sativa traits. They are saying Rudy did not contribute much like structure, flower time, smell, taste, etc. to the seed’s gene pool. Only the autoflower trait, supposedly.

Those percentages are just an estimate at best, based mainly on the total known lineage of the breeding stock used. To call something sativa or indica makes assumptions based on geographic origin and leaf shape to start with. Typically Afghans like NL5 the OG breeders used were considered indica and any equatorial narrow leaf became considered a sativa. Even the original breeders in the 80’s like Skunkman Sam, Nevil Schoenmakers and Ben Dronkers guessed percentages of what traits were being passed with consideration for the entire lineage of grandparents as no one had access to lab equip. Before them going back to the original two Haze brothers in the late 60’s Skunkman Sam was neighbors with in Cali before moving to Holland called all their 3 equatorial crossed phenos Hazes. Now it seems every equatorial ‘sativa’ is called Haze. Listing percentages of the two parents lineage are based on phenotypic expression shown by the progeny when making new strains. Throwing Rudy in the mix is trying to make a more accurate guess. So if I used 3 ‘sativas’ and 1 ‘indica’ in a breeding project to make some seeds, I might say the seeds are 75% sativa and 25% indica. To get Rudy in the mix to create an autoflower might take several ‘sativa’ crosses, crossed with several ‘indica’ crosses, then crossed to 1 Rudy to get an 80/15/5 assumed breakdown of genes passed to the new auto seeds.

does the percentage of rudy correlate with the auto vs photo tendencies of the seeds? if it is lower, are you more likely to get photo plants?

I would assume so but the only trait they need from Rudy is the auto gene/s. There is no lab test that says a plant’s genetic markers are indica or sativa. Those are subjective labels put on landraces. I think percentages might have more to do with the number of each ‘type’ (indica/sativa/rudy) of plant used in the project, not any make up of gene percentage passed to seeds.
