Looking for best way to make RSO/FECO for medicine for my father suffering from cancer. I have a plant ready for harvest soon for this purpose and want to make the best medicine possible for him.
what are my best steps? Dry first? Grind?Decarb before or during cooking down? I want to hear all your recipes and processes

The process is fairly simple. It’s the purity of the alcohol that makes the difference. Less proof means more water. Water boils off at a higher temp than alcohol so you’ll need higher heat for longer to remove the water and alcohol. No need to dry the flower. You can put fresh buds in a jar of alcohol and put the jar in the freezer for a few days. After that you’ll need to strain the oil and evaporate the alcohol in a well ventilated area like outside. The heat will decarb the oil for edibles. Once the alcohol is evaporated the RSO is ready.

@jmystro I don’t have to dry and cure to do this? Nice. I also have access to the good 190 proof Everclear. Are the various kitchen gadgets that do all of this and recover the alcohol worth it? I’m worried about what could be left over from one run to the next in the ethanol.

@jmystro thank you! I planned on getting a magnetic stirring hot plate and heating to about 250 during the cook down to trigger the decarb, does that sound right? Chop up the fresh a little to make sure it all get dissolved in the alcohol? And tips on how to gauge cook down completion? I don’t want to burn it

You can decarb fast with a flame or slow at lower temps. You don’t want to go above 180F to save some terpenes. It should take several hours to cook off the alcohol. No need to chop anything up but don’t jar stem.

@HoneyIslandGenetics Yes. You can decarb the cannabinoids when you apply heat when evaporating the alcohol. Cut bud off stem, fill mason jar with bud, pour in alcohol, put in freezer. Wait a day or two. Filtering is a 2 step process. First, strain the liquid from the bud into a mason jar. Fatty acids will still be in the liquid so you’ll want to put the jar of liquid back in the freezer for about a day to freeze the fatty acids solid. Then strain the liquid from the solids and then evaporate the alcohol. You can decarb the bud before soaking in alcohol. But if you do just remember to seal the lid on the jar so you don’t lose all the terpenes into the air.
