We’re going to do a short form on Making Cannabis Edibles and I wanted to get the crews thoughts, ideas, techniques and recipes! Let us know:

How do you make your edibles?

What do you make your edibles from? (Larf, Keif, Buds, Trim, Hash?)

How do you know/ estimate how strong they are?

Do you decarb the weed first? How does that affect potency?

Got any best recipes or resources? any great hash makers on social media?

      Thanks!

Best comments will be featured on next weeks shows

Got any other tips and tricks you think the DGC should know for making great edibles?

Let us know in the comments!

      • Decarb bud in a sealed mason jar in the oven. 40 min @ 240degrees. Allow to cool, then open jar and add coconut oil. Place jar in hot water bath for 4 hrs @ 185 degrees. (Crockpot, auto pot, double boiler etc.). Strain out the bud with cheese cloth or a metal tea strainer. Store in glass jars in the fridge or freezer. Use an online calculator to estimate potency and enjoy!

        • I’ve been using the Levo II for about a year now and love it. Simple to use and I don’t have to pay much attention to it. I’ve been making both butter and coconut oil to make brownies, chocolate bars, and gummies. The machine decarbs for you at what ever temp and time you want then infuses at a different time and temp. I can run 7g or 14g batches and if you’re good at math there is a way to figure out the dosage. Im old school and im use to throwing in a qtr bud to a stick of butter to make some knock out brownies so I just go by feel. If im not feeling good by the time the brownies are done after licking then they’re not that strong lol.

          • I decarb in my LEVO II. I can do up to 14g at a time, which is typically more than I ever need. I sometimes infuse into good butter (high quality, not that generic @#$%), but other times, I need to make tincture first. For that, I decarb 14g and put it in a small mason jar. Fill the rest of the way with 190 proof Everclear or similar. Keep in a cool dry place, shake once a day. After 3 to 4 weeks, filter into another mason jar through a natural filter like unbleached coffee filters. The freezer works well for storage.

So, why tincture? Once you have Tincture, you can test it for strength with your T-Check or similar, and combine it to desired strength with 1 pound of sugar. Spread the sugar out on a short walled tray, and mix until the alcohol has completely evaporated. Sieve or sift the sugar, and set aside.

Repeat the process with 1 pound of flour. Sift the flour when done, and set aside.

Make 1 pound of cannabutter via the method of your choice (I used my LEVO II), and set aside.

So why a pound of butter, sugar, and flour? Well, to help make pound cake! This is my basic recipe for Pound Cake!

            In a mixer, combine:
1 lb cannabutter (or butter substitute if vegetarian/vegan)
            1 lb canna-sugar
            1 lb canna-flour
1 lb of room temperature eggs (or egg substitute if vegetarian/vegan)

Place in a pound cake type baking dish or pan. Bake for 2 hours at 245 degrees F.

For bonus points, zest the citrus fruit of your choice, and combine with sugar and cream to make a lovely icing!

            • lol I decarbed in a crock pot for 18-24 hours then separated the butter and bud in my juicer. Lost 1/4 cup of butter with this process but the butter was extra potent. lol my cousin that doesn’t smoke or consume much cannabis in general got so high he got sick and went to bed after eating one cookie and slept the entire next day away🤣

              4
              • I grind larf and trim in six ounce runs and decarb in a foil bag I fold on a huge cookie sheet at 245° for 40 minutes. I shake and agitate the bag a couple of times to stir.

Melt down 48 oz. Coconut oil (6- 8oz Dollar Tree tubs) and I put the decarbed grind in a nut bag used for making almond milk and double boil it for six hours at 185° and then strain it still in the bag with a potato ricer.

                My gummie recipe is

2 large boxes of flavored gelatin, 8 packs of unflavored and I just mix them dry. All that powder gets whisked into a cup of apple juice, a cup of canna oil, a teaspoon of sunflower lecithin and a tablespoon of lime juice, as a mold inhibitor, that’s beginning to roll and stir viciously for about a minute, off the heat.

I use the old red and yellow roadside cafe mustard and ketchup squeeze bottles (Dollar Tree again! Molds too!) to pour into molds using a welding glove to keep my hams raw. Roll them in cornstarch if you wish and voilà!

They will last about two months in the fridge but get to know a cancer nurse and she’ll help you make sure that they don’t hang out that long. Folks on Chemo shouldn’t pay for weed!!!!!

Use whatever amount of oil the box calls for, an extra tablespoon of butter for fat to carry it in quickly, and an extra egg yolk in brownies… plows everybody around me. I do the same gummie recpipe for the CBDs I make for my son. All the benefits without the high! We’ll… benefits for him!🤣

You can add flavors from Vape juice suppliers and Wilton Cakes make awesome flavorings to change it up.

I have no idea of dosages. My wife eats one and gets wonky I can eat three and barely feel them but “my one guy that helps me out…” eats two and curses at me because they’re too strong. I keep them agitated whilst pouring and folks say they’re pretty consistent but I’d love to nail it down ANd find a sweet and sour coating that doesn’t get sticky-gooey!

We also make honey from my bees in much the same process as the coconut oil, and use it to can our peach, apple, cherry and Meyer lemon preserves. Easy way to FedEx a stash to a friend or family member! We even print out labels!🤣 Great addition to Greek yogurt or just a piece of marbled rye! 🤘🏼

The oil can be whipped with an Emerson blender and used topically as well.

                🤣And wear gloves while straining….😵‍💫

                ABHX3!🤘🏼

                • I’ve basically never made edibles or tinctures before and really need to learn, so my eyes are wide open and thank-you Scotty and Dude and everyone for all you share. It REALLY means ALOT. Thank-You, Thank-You!

                  3
                  • You can purify butter and remove most of the green taste with the water method. I don’t think this gets talked about enough. I’ve even heard of people going direct to the water method with their butter and skipping the initial infusion. Seems like it would prevent over cooking. I’ve never bother with decarb for butter personally.

                        • If you want to enhance your favorite recipe for a medical or recreational purpose, you can substitute part of the fat (oils, butter, margarine, etc.) with a calculated dose of cannabutter. and just treat it like a normal cake.

                          1
                          • Yeah decarb in rice cooker. Super easy

                            2
                            • Holy cow! That’s a lot of information. Never made edibles but I make food grade salves with Coconut Oil base. Everything is decarbed. Leaves, trim and anything in between!

                              1
                              • Don’t forget to tell people about decarb part!!!!

                                • We make infused coconut oil with trim and mainly make chocolates my favorite are these dark chocolate peanut butter cups.
The chocolate is melted with the infused coconut oil over a double boiler, the peanut butter filling is infused with RSO and to make that it’s just peanut butter powdered sugar and of course the RSO.
Honestly couldn’t give measurements we pretty much just eyeballs it lol but they taste amazing and are very potent

                                • You get a pressure cooker. Fill mason jars with grinded flower half way. Fill water to about a quarter up the jars. Cook for 30 minutes let pressure release naturally. Which takes about 20 minutes. You got fully decarbed flower!. Pour your fat ! Coconut oil holds more then butter!! Pour directly onto the decarboxed flower throw it back in the pressure cooker. Cook for another 30. Release pressure naturally pull out carefully and strain!!!. Or buy some disty and drop it in any recipe!!! But what’s the fun in that!!

                                  1
                                  • I use rso to make my edibles. It is already decarbed, so I just need to measure out the desired amount and melt it into the butter. Then make my edibles.

                                    1
                                    • For a small scale butter making I like soups method best. Hands-down.

                                      • I just take a teaspoon of butter before bed if I want to use it. I don’t actually make anything out of it. I’m an adult. I can take my medicine without sugar.

                                        • grilledcheese (edited)

We used to make gummies but it’s hot here in FL and they melt at the beach so we started making hard candies, and they are out of this world.

I start with the most important step to making edibles, determining the dosage I’m looking for. We have found that 20 mg per candy works well for sharing and the batch I’ll describe produces 80x 5 mL candies. The starting material I use is either pressed rosin or bubble that’s been pressed through 25 micron bags so, without testing, I’m assuming around 80% THC. If I am targeting 80 candies at 20 mg each I need 1600 mg of THC. 80% THC per gram = 800 mg THC per g of starting material. 1600 mg/800 mg = 2 g of starting material needed for 1 batch of 80x 20 mg candies.

To decarb I place the starting material into a small glass makeup container that has a thick glass base and I put that directly on a flat top oven burner set to low. This can be very risky if you’re not using a laser temperature gun to monitor but I’ve found with our particular setup it works perfectly to maintain the temp at low setting. I target 214 F and I mix continuously with a dab tool until the mixture stops bubbling, about 15 min.

While the decarb process is taking place, my girlfriend starts the candy mixture. She starts by combining 1 cup of sugar, 1/3 cup of corn syrup, and 1/4 c water into a medium pot placed over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Next, bring the mixture up to a boil WITHOUT STIRRING and use an instant read thermometer to measure the temperature until it reads 300 F then remove the hot mixture from heat. Allow the mixture to cool to 280 F and add 1 dram of candy flavoring followed by your decarbed material and mix super well to combine everything evenly. We use the LorAnn flavorings with the mint and watermelon being some of our favorites. We’ve also combined the strawberry and cheesecake flavorings and they are so good. Something to remember here is that stirring and adding things cools the mixture which will make your candy start to set faster so it helps to leave the pot on the hot stove while you stir.

Pour the well-mixed candy mixture into your silicone molds. Again, the ones with 5 mL candy size are nice for this recipe, but you can adjust to whatever you have/want. Don’t be afraid to warm the pot a little if the candy starts to set as you pour.

That’s pretty much it. Allow the candies to set for 20 minutes or so, pop them into a container with a little sprinkle of powdered sugar and give it a shake to coat which will prevent the candies from sticking together. We store them in the fridge and they last until they are gone without issue.

I hope you all find this helpful and that you enjoy the recipe!

                                          • if I’m doing a quick wash ethanol extract I like to decarb the oil after I’ve made it with a hot oil bath instead of decarbing the material before hand imo it gives the end product a better flavour almost has a nutty taste to it

                                            • I make capsules for my wife who has a variety of conditions.

                                              Basics are:

                                              1: Rough grind flower.

2: Into a sealed 1/2 gal wide mouth canning jar.

3: Into the oven at 225F for 2 hours (1 hour gets it most of the way, but I run it for 2).

4: Out of the oven, pour any edible oil of choice (coconut, cooking oils, olive, etc) to just cover the flower. Shake it up.

5: Back into the oven 225 for 2 hours, I give it an occasional rotation.

6: Out it goes, let it cool.

7: Strain through cheesecloth to filter it to just the oil.

8: Oil is ready for use. We use a pill filler and make 100 capsules in a batch. You can also just replace any oil ingredient In a recipe with the infused oil.

                                              • Ardent for decarb

                                                • Hash edibles are without a doubt my favorite. The less desirable micron hash makes killer edibles. Solventless is a must in my humble opinion

                                                  • Ive been making butter about 4 years now and I use an amazon 420 butter machine. ($125). Works great noisy as hell though, lol. I decarb on a tray in my oven 245*f for 45 minutes, and normally only use my older bud although sometimes ill throw some keif in a batch. 4 sticks of butter going in with 1 zip of flower gives me 3 sticks finished after the squeeze. I toss the leftover sludge. Shit will have you trippin if you are not careful, lol. I use a dollop of butter in hot ginger tea every afternoon and it will cure what ails ya!

                                                    • Go check out Sweet Edible Treats on Facebook

                                                      • I put all my trim and all the crap buds (about a pound) into about 3 gallons of water add about a quart of coconut oil, Bring to a Rolling boil for about two hours or so, pour mix through a bubble bag into a 5gal bucket or pot to catch all the trim, squeeze the bag out as much as possible, the oil floats on the water, skim that off or let cool and pull the solid oil off when cold. Put into a smaller container to separate The small amount of leftover water from the oil. Doing it this way leaves less of a weed taste if you’re using whole flower or trim.

                                                        • One joy of rosin is that it simplifies making edibles. I add 2 grams of rosin to 200 ml of honey heated to 160 F on a magnetic stirrer hot plate. Takes about 45 minutes to mix thoroughly and decarb. Dose works out to be about 45 mg per teaspoon. I add it to a masala chai or spicey hot chocolate for when my skeletomuscular pain needs a good beat down.

                                                          • When I was young

The learning curve was so much fun.

Hey guys, you I’d really like to get into this topic but I’m a little stuck In this learning curve stage.

On my time line 2 weeks ago, you see me posting

                                                            Decarbing 4 grams

                                                            1 oz of sauce

                                                            1 oz of wax

2 weeks later and all I can say is…

Dang, an oz of wax didn’t want to melt at the old

160 degrees low & slow decarbing. So I mixed the liquid sauce into the wax.

                                                            It blended nicely.

I got to sit on my porch with the air fryer running 160 for 2 days. Machine turns off every hour. Sucks lol

Then I poured it ( 1/2 cup) into the other jar to cut it in half. Which cut the decarbing time down.

Lots of smaller batches decarbs faster.

Like I was saying, please check my time-line 2 weeks ago. I’ll try to post some pics but these edibles are so strong, I can’t get this thing to work when I try to load a pic.

                                                            Low & Slow

It’s the best way to go

Does anyone else loose their appetite when doing strong edibles. Total opposite of the munchies lol

It’s weird, looks like Iike it worked this time lol

                                                            • Note: on the recipes that call for one 6 oz box of flavored jello w/ 3 table spoons of bloomed unflavored jello

1 oz of wax is strong meds

                                                              1 every 6 to 8 hours nice
