I recently hookup up 12 plants to a blumat tropf system and love it so far. Only problem i see is in my reservoir, my reservoir is a 5 gallon food grade white bucket(I used to use this to make compost tea so it may be stained inside), with a larger airstone. I hooked up my water line to it using a float valve. But after 1 month i noticed white flakes in the water and side and airline were little slimy, kind of reminds me of my humidifier that I have to clean every month feels slimy inside. So i drained it and just hand wash everything.
I did install filters on the gravity feed lines which feeds my plants. And most of the time it’s dark where my reservoir is unless I’m in the room tending to my plants that’s the only time lights are ever hitting the reservoir.
I didn’t know if there is a hydroponic reservoir, cleaning solution that people use. Is there a way to prevent this problem or is this the work ill do every 2 weeks?
