Anyone have some genetics smarts? I have some autoflower seeds from a strain I really like. They are Normal, NON-Feminized – I have culled males a few times when I grow these.

Question is — is it worth it to breed for seed? I could drop a bunch of beans, keep the best looking male plant and 2-3 females, and just let it roll. Would it be worth it, or are genetics more complicated than that? Do I get a big bag of future buzz, or a big bag of questions?

The line I want to breed is (onething x anotherthing RIL F4) I am guessing the Recombinant Inbred Line, generation F4 should be pretty true but sibling-mating might bring out the madness from the “onething” ? I need a Pot Genes for Dummies book, I know enough to be stupid. WWYD?

You’re gonna have a lot of seeds. But if you really like that strain, why the hell not but if I were you, I would definitely have this as a side project because once you get a good pollination, there’s not gonna be any weed to smoke. You’re gonna have a lot of seed husks making the buds basically unsmokeable

Oh for sure, this would be a seed run, maybe one female would be more than enough seeds. One thing I’m wondering if multiple seed-moms would come out different phenotypes, or if this type of breeding would be more stable?

Mainly, I’m wondering if I have a risk of ditchweed by breeding the autos, because ruderalis (something something). There I go again, I only know enough genetics to ask stupid questions!

An F4 should be quite dominant and stable regarding genetic variances. That said any recessive gene can show itself, any race of human can mix genes and come up with all sorts of stuff African red head, blonde Asian. Sometimes you get the most amazing pheno expression you didn’t know existed, like my Vietnam strain or Pearls from Budularo. Sometimes you get exactly what you were looking for. When you find one you like then you work to stabilize the genetics and work the breeding line to your ideal characteristics whether it is adding more pieces to the pie by mixing more external gene lines or inbreeding. When you get to the end of the line, use nano silver or some silver product to herm your plant pollinate it with itself and you have feminized seeds.

Hope that helps you get started, there is a lot more we could discuss just hit me up if you have any questions bud! Groove On!!!
