Coco and cal mag

So I’ve always been a peat grower. I haven’t switched to coco because 1 I’m having good results and 2 I’m afraid of the cal/mag need in coco as I top dress organic(ocean forest start and then top dress with Gaia green 444 and 284 and basalt rock dust) grow with some synthetic inputs like monosilicic acid. Help me get over me fear. Would it be easier to switch up my style? Could I continue this style top dressing and use a synthetic cal mag? I also have my plants butt chug and don’t have issues with keeping the top layer moist. Any tips are welcomed.

I don’t have an answer, but following, because we have almost the exact same grow style and I’ve been curious myself. The only difference is the base soil I use is Roots Organic.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it lol….but you could always do a side by side, try with one plant. I tried coco and it’s alright. You have a to get a good quality mixed light one though which is not just ground up powdered Coco, or just the chunks..but..I’ve found peat/soil and adding the coconut husk (just the strand bits) is the best. Something that old gardeners do, tried and tested

Calcium is the last element you ever want over-abundant. It antagonizes 7 different elements, limiting their availability. That’s a terrible trade off. Only supplement calcium or magnesium when you’re seeing an active deficiency with a specific plant. Most cannabis plants do not need any supplements and will lower yield considerably when you create an imbalance.

When looking for coco coir make sure it’s buffered. The cal mag is already in it and you won’t have to worry about adding unless you are seeing deficiencies. I use vivosun’s coco coir which is buffered, if your looking for non brick the brand Nutrifield is buffered and has perlite added. As far as top dressing I am not a pro, but I top dress diatomaceous earth with no problem. Hope this helps.
