Coco question

doozypotzParticipantJuly 26, 2025 at 11:24 amI usually grow in amended peat, perlite, castings, growdots, in a diy sip. I am trying out coco, same setup, just replacing peat with coco and adjusting ph. The coco seems dry, pot is light, meter barely registers, and it feels dry to the touch. However, the plants look great, and the reservoir uses a couple gallons a day. Is this normal? Seems weird.

I use cocco in grow bags with bottom wicking trays, Just set up the spyder farmer self watering trays . The top 2-3″ drys back nicely . If i stick ml finger into the cocco as deep as i can i will feel the moisture . Top looks dry. This i like. Any top feeding drys up in a short time.

Coco is very light compared to peat. I used coco my first run(I use diy sip too) , I’ve been using happy frog rainforest mixed with coco to lighten it for the sips and using roots organics and recharge. If your plants are happy there is no need to worry!

i use strickliy use coco and per-light 80-20 mix. liquid nutes , some recharge once in the middle of grow .
i have a soilph tester that has moister readings on it , have a vacation watering system out of a 5gal drinking water jug, every three hours they get 40 seconds of water , this keeps soil moist in middle but still allows the top to dry so no bugs . works quite well . now during flower i have same set up but different nutes of course. i have 5 tents currently, in one of my flower tents im hand feeding for an experiment . but they (the ladies) love it.
