Drying/Hanging
Posted by turnster on May 13, 2025 at 10:23 amHey guys.
When you are drying your bud and the humidity drops to mid 40% do you add more moisture in? As in a humidifier? Day 4 of drying.

They say 60 % humidity and 60° degrees Fahrenheit. Just make sure you have air circulating around your dry space as well
-
60/60 is a good start but not my entire SOP. 40% RH will ruin your flowers. 40% is unacceptable conditions to dry.
Week 1-2: 60F/60% RH
Week 3: 60F/55% RH
Week 4: 60F/50% RH.
Week 5: Seal in container.
-
“Week 5: Seal in container.” I assume you are burping/curing for the next couple weeks?
-
No burping, as off gassing is complete after a month. Burping is for impatient people who don’t know how to properly dry their flower.
-
-
Growers who seal their flower after 2 weeks need to burp their containers. This is counter productive. We slowly dry the flower while oxidation ‘cures’ the trichome cuticle. We want to slowly dry the flower to allow the break down of complex molecules like chlorophyll, starches and fatty acids. Some chlorophyll breaks down, but not all of it as our flower would not be green. Brown brick weed poorly dried and stored had it’s chlorophyll consumed by microbes like mold. To ‘cure’ the flower itself requires longer term (months) cold storage to break down complex starches into simple glucose sugars giving the smoothest smoke possible.

I have dedicated climate controlled spaces to veg, flower and dry. They’re all of equal importance so they each have a mini-split AC and commercial dehumidifier/s. I came up with my drying SOP over 25 years ago and have been sharing it with the DGC for over 10 years. 60/60 comes from me but it’s barely half my SOP. Proper dry takes a month.
-
Man, that’s awesome.. I have been using 60/60 for awhile, it’s a good rule to shoot for. We knew back in the day that the cure was just as important as the grow.. if you mess that up you might as well have grown it like crap bc it doesn’t matter at that point.

-
Hi,
I’m drying in a tent but it’s really dry at the moment. Should I keep my humidifier on while drying as well to keep it in the range?
-
Yes. You’ll have dust if you let it dry at 40%.

-
No intake fan on. I have put the humidifier on now to keep it at 60. Should it really smell? because it doesn’t really?

-
The plants I mean, they don’t have that dank smell. I have followed every rule, ie. Humidity, Temps, VPD it looks the nuts but just has no pong.

-
Not really no. If you squeeze a bud then smell your fingers it smells but no aroma other than that. It’s Zangria by Frosted Farms.

.. there could be manyyyyy reasons.
What sort of aroma were you looking for?

No Respect for the OG grower, who has been growing longer than you probably been alive.
