Drying Question, Chlorophyl smell?

Im drying a plant right now and I cant seem to wonder if I’m doing something totally wrong or not. 65-72*F
55-60* RH
I am noticing it didn’t smell in the tent at all up until day 5, then I started to get a little bit of that chlorophyl smell. When I have dried in the past I have generally always gotten some sort of smell I don’t like (green, hay?) around day 5/6 all the way until I’m ready to put into a bin which is generally around day 10-12. Once I get to trimming the smell seems to get danker and then the curing process brings out more of the terps I want, and doesn’t leave the green smell around.
I cant help but think that something could be better, or I’m just missing something all together. Maybe I’m not getting the full expression and all the flavors I could be getting potentially. I know it’s a little on the warmer side for drying but thats the best I can do with my space that I have currently.
I hate having a beautiful flower then that green smell comes and its always saddening/worrying, but I know when I trim and put into a grove bag it will more than likely go away. If I touch the buds they still have their terpy smell, but the tent smells green when I open it.
How normal is that green smell to have while the plants are hanging?
Is there something I’m not seeing that could help improve my final product?
Thanks in advance.

I just dried my first harvest ever and I used the Brandon Rust drying method. 70-72f and 40-45% rh for 7 full days in the dark tent with indirect airflow and a carbon filter/duct fan. . There’s a YouTube video in dgc forums about it. I thought it was real easy and delivered a good end result. I did smell the fresh cut hay smell but was assured by a pro that this was normal. It went away. When the small stems (just before the end flower) snaps, then you buck the flower into a tote or jars. I did jars and had 39% rh initially and later it settled around 43% rh in the jars. Nice white ash, stayed lit and real smoothe. I would definitely try it again.

i’m doing about the same for 5+ years then use grove bag. i agree first 2-3 days you need to remove as much humidity as possible and then lower down the temps and raise humidity arround 50-55%. Last 2-3 days temps should be arround 65f and humidity 55-8%

Leaf is responsible for that smell mainly. Remove the leaf.

Remember that the more terps you smell while it’s hanging, the more terps you’re actually losing

This has a lot to do with the type and their carbon chain size. Oxydation, light, and heat will be factors to this. Most terpenes wont be affected under 77F, just a few monoterpenes. These are lighter aromas anyways. Oxydation or light will do this faster than heat. These are all factors to your dry enviroment. Dark and appropriate temp for timely manner.

Thanks for all the responses, I feel the leaves are the culprit. It’s good to have some confirmation that this is normal.

Yep, so after finishing the dry and trimming it smells like I want it to now lol. Patience is the key. Into the grove bag she goes!
