Grow dots and wicking bases

Looking at using dry nutes along with a wicking base to avoid so much mixing. The wicking base keeps about the bottom 3rd of the pot moist. My question is will it deplete the grow dots faster or overfeed my plants? Any problems with pairing the two basically. Thanks.

  • Grow dots and wicking systems are a great automation combo, you don’t really need anything else beside microbes.

You can add dry amendments with Grow Dots on an as needed basis, but you need to be careful to avoid overloading your plants, as Grow Dots are designed to be all-in-one feeding.

  • That’s how I grow. Coco and grow dots in wicking buckets. I’m noticing that the grow dots run out at about 10-12 weeks. For longer strains, I’m adding an organic PK booster at the 8 week mark. Also, I’ll add a very small amount (1ml or less per gallon) of cal mag when I top water with recharge once a week.

Be sure to check your rez and change out the water periodically. It’s easy because you can leave for a few days without asking someone to water or rely on an automatic system that can fail.

    • Im going to be trying my first wicking system and grow dots soon. On those recharge days do you shut the res off? Ill be using the tray to grow. I prob wont be watering a whole lot on those days unless im adding silica or any other additives on top of the recharge. With just recharge you could literally just water at the base of the stem, just to inoculate. But on heavy top watering i should probably shut the res off for a day huh?

      • I have the Spider-Farmer wicking bases. I don’t shut off the rez when top watering because I doubt that anything will travel against the flow back into the rez. Some runoff will get into the base, but it’s gonna stay there until it gets sucked up by the plant eventually. The bases definitely need to be cleaned periodically, but so far the rez itself looks great.

Note: This is my first grow with the SF system, so I may well change my stance in the future.

        • Sweet! I was more concerned about overwatering than anything else

  • It’s a simple great way to grow and have time to get away. I use the bigger bases from AC infinity. They hold 2 5 gallons
