Growing abroad where cannabis is illegal

Hey guys, I’m new here to the DGC and was honestly looking for some help. I’ll be getting my own place soon and wanted to dabble with growing. Where I live there is no knowledge about the plant whatsoever, so the state of the bud is usually brown, bone dry and seedy as all hell, not to mention the fact that we don’t have strains here either I’m pretty sure it’s all one landrace being grown in different conditions sold all over the place but all the same smoke terribly and seedy. So the only solution is for me to grow it myself right?

So first of all I’ve never grown anything in my life, but I don’t think that’ll be really my main issue. I think my main problem is with the setup and nutrients (that’s if you don’t count the fact that my genetics is coming from these unknown landraces). I definitely wouldn’t have access to the variety of grow lights and tents you have in the US. Best I can manage probably light wise is some full spectrum LED blurple lamps or maybe the blurple light strips? and god knows what I’m going to do with the nutrients.

So I was just looking for some help with what products to get/ stay away from (if I even have access) and maybe how to make my own nutrients with some of the things available in agro shops here.

Any help would honestly be greatly appreciated guys thank you so much.

    That’s certainly a tricky situation you’re in.

You can build yourself a 2×2 or 3×3 box out of plywood or particle board. Spray paint the inside facing panels flat white.

As far as lights go, I would try to get your hands on some contractor string lights. Here in the states, you can get a 5 light (7500 lumens each) string light for under $90. If you can deal with all the excess extension cords, 2 sets of these lights (10 total) would be even better. Attach each light to the ceiling, and 4 walls of the homemade wooden grow box.

Get a few mini fans, one to agitate your plants and one or two to exchange the air in your box.

As far as nutrients go, any miracle gro or houseplant or flower fertilizer will be better than nothing. Just mix in the granules with the soil medium before hand and top dress as necessary when growing. If using large granules, you may need to grind those up if you need to top dress nutes if you see you need more nitrogen or whatever. Also, a 10 gallon guppy fish tank will do wonders for providing great supplemental goodies to your water (only add a cup or so per gallon of water).

I would really try to get some seeds mailed to you as genetics are going to be the most essential aspect to a successful grow. You can even select some varieties that don’t really stink that much or varieties that’ll fit in a confined space. The vast majority Landrace varieties are very wild and will not grow well in a small clandestine grow.

Finally, since a Charcoal air filter is probably out of the question, get a hepa air filter and hope you don’t get caught.

    Good luck!

Wow a lot to digest here, first of all thank you so much for all the information. I’ll see what I can find when it comes to these lights and you’re right I was definitely going to have to go with a DIY box or something.<div>
</div><div>I don’t really get what you mean with the guppy fish tank? If you could explain that a bit more.
About genetics am I even legally allowed to receive or buy seeds via mail? I don’t know anyone who’s ever done this before where I live so that might be tough. I was thinking the seeds I pop here are definitely grown outdoors so I don’t know how they’d grow under an indoor setup. I think I might have to try it to find out. </div><div>
</div><div>I really appreciate you taking the time out to respond so thanks again. </div>

By guppy fish tank, I mean a fresh water aquarium with any variety of fresh water fish. Guppys are cheap and will actually reproduce on their own though so that’s why I said “guppy fish tank.” The water from a fresh water aquarium is great when added in 1:8 to 1:16 ratio to the water you give your plants.

I would recommend finding someone in the states or Europe to mail you seeds hidden in a care package or small envelope.

        Good luck!

Hmmm that’s an interesting idea I didn’t know you could do that. I’ll definitely be looking into that. My best bet for genetics is someone off DGC (but who would go through the hassle?) as I don’t really know anyone in the US. I have friends that live in Spain I can probably ask them to mail me some seeds but with no growing experience it’s tough to know what bank to settle with. As knowing your breeder in Spain might be difficult. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

The title alone sparked my curiosity to where you might live but then I read the post and now I’m even more curious lol. I’m sure your secret would be totally safe around here. But you don’t have to say if you’re not comfortable. I’m in the US but I live in North Carolina and not even medical use is legal yet here.

I had never grown anything either before I started growing cannabis. I had never even seen a weed plant before my own. Had to teach myself everything but it’s not hard at all. Cannabis isn’t all that much of a specialty plant. Most of the stuff used for growing many other types flowers and vegetables works for cannabis too. Fertilizers advertised towards tomatoes is commonly used. They don’t call it Weed for nothing, it’ll grow almost anywhere like a weed. Surely you are able to find some basic gardening supplies locally. A light and airy potting mix, use a tomato fertilizer during veg and find a fertilizer that’s for blooming flowers to use during flower.

For lights, without knowing where you live it’s kinda hard to recommend anything. You could DIY some average low watt house bulbs together lol. I’m not sure if it would be any better than blurple lights. Any picture I’ve seen of plants under blurple lights never look very good. If it were me I’d try using a bunch of regular bulbs first. But idk much about lighting so I could very well be wrong and blurple would be better. Lighting isn’t my thing.

For a tent you can use an old cabinet or make anything similar to a grow tent, idk if I’d go any smaller than 2ft x 2ft x 4ft though. Line the inside with something reflective, foil works, or paint the inside white and set up a couple small fans. I’m not sure what could be done for smell though.

My first grow in 2000 I used HPS street lights from Home Depot. Built a box with a bathroom fan for a vent on the top of the box. and a piece of glass to separate the light from my plants. Basically a cheap vented light. It worked and I learned a lot on that before purchasing some better lights and equipment. Been growing over 24 years now.

Yhh it’s definitely going to be a DIY option and I found a few full spectrum LED’s but with blurple light so idk which would be better these low quality LEDs or hps

Hey Slam, it’s great to hear I’m not alone on this I assumed most growers have had attempts with other plants before. yeah I was reading online for similar plants and mainly the focus was tomato for veg and was stuck on the flower phase but what you said makes sense.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by regular lights? I’ve been reading that I should steer clear from the blurple lights trying to find some alternatives. And definitely the smell is going to be rough to figure out maybe if I can find suitable filters.

Anyways thanks again for the ideas!

In the vegetative state lighting Can be more flexible you may have to veg a little longer, depending on the intensity of whatever light you get, but that’s OK. Try to get you a high-pressure sodium light for flour that might be easier for you to get But it’s gonna create more heat. Shit, I’ll send you an old pair of Levi’s with some seeds sewn into the cuff of them if you want.
