harvest soon?
Posted by thedottiegman on December 16, 2024 at 9:39 pmhey this will be my first harvest. Mimosa x orange punch auto had some bad root rot so im sure that hurt it a lot but I know im looking for cloudy/ some amber heads but how close am I to harvest you think? I did a terrible job of keeping track of what week it is on. 9/15 I put germinated seed in organi plug

I’m no expert but to me they look pretty cloudy. I don’t see amber but that depends on what effect you would like from this, If you want more sedative wait.
Or harvest a bit now and a bit later to see which you like?
-
hmmm im not too sure on what to do. Ill keep that in mind

Nothing wrong with waiting for a more experienced growers input. Admittedly I’m not super familiar with this part since I’ve only done it once and sickness in my plant forced my harvest time.
I do know Amber trichomes are a sign they are dying. For some reason that’s when they get more sedative.
It’s something to think of for sure. do you want day time or evening bud?
-
I think im gonna wait! thanks for the help! I feel like were all learning here thats why real dgc is so nice

I agree with @ZoomyCat – Personally I’d wait a little longer for more amber throughout the plant. I’m no expert either, I’m about to complete my first harvest too! Planted on 9/23
-
post harvest picks when the time comes! what are you growing at the moment?
-
Girl Scout Cookies Auto by Samurai Squirrel Seeds and Gorilla Zkittlez from 420 Fastbuds.
GSC is 12 weeks now and Gorilla Zkittles is 2 weeks

Def comes down to preference here. The best way it to let a plant go til its almost about to rot one day and see if you like the effects with more amber or not. You’ll also get good feel for what late stage looks like. If you wait too long tho it can start to rot the buds so approach with caution.

im afraid of the waiting to long for sure! thanks for the info!

I see mostly cloudy. If you want a more sudative effect it needs a little more amber. Don’t be misled by the tricombes on the leaves. Make sure you’re examining the actual bud surface (caylx). If you want a more energetic and creative effect go for cloudy with very little amber. If your girl is hitting the side of your tent or bumping other buds this could also cause them to turn amber. I take a sample from the top and midways of a cola that is not banging aroundand scope that.

the main cola seemed pretty cloudy but not the mids and lowers. i think im gonna wait for some amber. I personally grow for anxiety and appetite

Whenever I’m on a first run of any particular genotype, I always harvest the plant in 2-3 stages.
I’ll take the cloudy ones first, then let the remainder grow out another week, and harvest more, then run a final chop when they’re amber.
Cure and consume all three (one at a time) and you’ll get a pretty good feel for the effects you’re looking for. Then, on the next run, just note what the trichs looked like at your preferred ripeness and harvest the whole plant then.

I NEVER knew you could harvest in stages. Any particulars to it or just don’t butcher it?
-
Just don’t butcher it. I guess I wasn’t clear but I was trying to suggest this so they could see what each stage of plant progression provided them in terms of medicinal benefits.
-
-
ive not heard of this before but I will for sure take it into consideration and do some research on it thanks!
-
I was trying to suggest this to you so you could get the experience of medicinal effect and how the different chop times affected you medicinally. I guess I was not clear and there was a misunderstanding on what I meant.
I’m glad you like the idea though.

It’s funny reading through the comments, thinking how times have changed. In the old days… lol
I remember growing in the desert, indoors. No Exhaust system, Sometimes not even a fan for circulation. Growing in straight vermillion and pearl light with cheapest plant food for tomatoes from lowes. No filters using metal halide and hsp 1000 Watters. Only humidity was from plants and reservoir. That’s jungle growing.
Never worried about room temperature unless crazy hot. No gauges or controllers. Growing for bulk only. The word Connoisseur was a foreign language. Quantity over quality 4 to 6 thousand dollars a pound. Weight, that’s all that mattered. It’s was green bud not that nasty brick dance weed lol
So we harvested, when plant finished. But in sections of 3.
Top, middle and then the smalls.
Shit worked good, it was green bud and everyone wanted it. All these cool ass high tech equipment and controllers. Growing your stuff in as good as nature can. Strains so sensitive, you’d think they were Woke lol.
It was a weed. It would grow anywhere, anytime and never really had troubles. No mold No bud rott
It’s was desert grow and dryed weed. Didn’t have a clue. Even if it turned in a haybale smells thing,
It still sold fast lol
Dang edibles. What were we talking about again. Ahh, never mind lol

Its odd… Southern Alberta is considered a desert. I grow very much like you do but its in a closet and the plants get to humidify my house. 😁
