hole in one – tent vent hole

I’d like/have to cut a hole for the exhaust pipe in my old tent. I’d like to know how to do it, easy and cheap is preferred and what NOT to do. I had a look at the Secret Jardin ducting flange (~15€) + the connector (~5€) + shipping would be around 25€ but maybe there is something else.
covering the spot with duct tape and cutting in the tape but then what?
I do have textile glue but I doubt it will take it, the material is just too heavy and it wont soak in.

any ideas or experience people can share is highly appreciated❤

I’d do the tape first, both sides, then cut. Seems sound to me. Tape the edge after you make the cut to prevent tears.

Best way imo if you dont have a sleeve you can glue/double side tape to your wall would be to make an “x” in your tent wall slightly smaller than the hose or whatever you are running through it. You want the tent material to “stretch” around it and provide a nice tight seal you can then tape up and secure it. If this doesnt make sense let me know and Ill make a short video. Are you trying to run 4”-6” vent or something larger? If you are local (va) I will make you a sleeve you can glue to your tent or you can find a local upholstery shop or canvas shop close to you to make you a sleeve. Hope this helps-

      Yuuup ⬆️

The x cut will probably be your best bet. Start with a smaller x then try to squeeze your duct/flange in. Too tight, make some relief cuts inbetween your x cut. Kinda turning your x cut into a star cut, then after multiple relief cuts it’ll resemble a saw blade or something. You want it tight but not too tight where your tearing the material, that’s where the relief cuts come into play as they let the material relax while still being snug, just don’t make your relief cuts too long, cut a little at a time then do a test fit. Two up two down my fellow VAer. Holden down the southeast side over here

I’d try get a bucket or tub with a tight lid and cut the top off of it and try fasten it on each side of the fabric so you could cut the middle out to the edge of the lid , could also put a bit of ducting in it and a little expanding foam round the edge ?

    thanks @ChomeFactory @pungolian @4skinup

with those inputs here is the plan:

I grow in a bucket based DIY Flood&Drain system (pic from last year with buckets in action), I payed a bit extra for my buckets coz I wanted them black and food grade. now guess what food grade buckets come with…lids!

I’ll cut and sand the lids to shape, put a big hole in the middle for the 6” hose and drill a couple of holes around it to bolt it down. I’ll tape the spot on the tent anyway just in case. I might have to make a trip to the hardware store on monday to pick up some screws and nuts. I’ll pull the hose through and seal it up with more tape. If I’m not happy with my lids or screw them up, instead of cutting a hole and the trip to the hardware store I’ll order the Secret Jardin stuff on monday and pretend I’m happy with it coz I payed money for it😛

Anyway like a sowing embroidery loop then cut the to be chit out and fill it in with the duct and close gaps with expanding foam, it cuts away easily and bobs yer uncle
