my first grow, should I be taking off more trim leaves at this point? ive trimmed some to open up for air flow and light penetration but im nervous about taking to many.

  • they look good, thin leaf, I would relax on feeling like you gotta do more. Patience. 👍 Lookin great!

  • They’re looking pretty good to me. I usually only shave their legs and remove large leaves that are shading a bud sight, and then only when it can’t be tucked. I usually take all the fan leaves a week before harvest. I have plenty of humidity here. If in a drier climnate I would leave the fan leaves to retard the drying process.

That looks good to me. A couple point i follow are:

Airflow is important. If there are so many leaves that they mat on top of each other, that can become a breeding ground for mold and pests.

Once you flip over, the plant is going to prioritize flower instead of veg growth which means that any leaf that is shaded will become a energy burden that could be going to the flower instead of sustaining the shaded leaf itself.

The fan leaves at the top of the plant are shading everything below them (im sure lots of people still keep them)

As time goes on , leaves still grow larger and fill in, albeit at a slower rate so even if you thin a little too much, the leaves left will still fill up some of the space created by the prune

Once the buds start growing, say week 3, i look under the skirt as it were, and look for any new stems that have started growing and remove them, as well as any bud sites at the very bottom in the shade, on side branching and remove them. The more energy going to the main crop the better imo

  • First wk flower strip her down 50% , Day 21/3wks you can take up to 50% foliage if you are care full , from this i take a leaf here and there if it blocks light to buds only.

  • i defoliate every time i open my tent . there is always some sort of growth that need removing .and it keeps the plant healthier

    • this is much better than an all at once prune/ defoliation IMO.

A leaf, lower buds, small branches, removed here and there on a regular basis will not cause a high stress factor the plant has to recover from.

I prefer to groom the plant as it grows rather than have a single Defoliation/ prune.

  • Dont touch it til you cut it. Its fine. Needs those fan leaves.

  • You’re doing great bud

  • Dont take off any more than a quarter of the plants mass at once when defoliating.

Try grooming over several days/ weeks, rather than a single high stress prune/ defoliation that she has to recover from.

thats what I do. But, also it can be debated as to stressing the plant with pruning/defol is beneficial for epigenetic responses for desired results.

best of luck to you !!
