What’s your recommended minimum length of a cut for clones, please?
And if you want that clone pre-topped before planting, is it better to do the topping some time before taking the cut, or can you do it on the day of the cut?

My practice for propagation of a keeper or preserving a phenotype of unknown quality during a hunt is to use the bottom branches. Cut an axillary stem 2.5 times the length of a peat plug, e.g., Rapid Rooter, OrganiPlug, SuperPlug. Pre-soak your plugs with weak solution of monoammonium phosphate.
Cut just below a petiole, strip off that leaf, usually clipping off the next up, and the largest of the dual leaves at the tip, widen plug hole for easier insertion, drip Clone-X into plug hole, dip stem in Hormex No. 8, insert stem, drip another dollop Clone-X next to the stem, put into humidity dome for 2 weeks, transplant.
Good Luck!

You can clone as small as I say three nodes so pretty small depending on strain. Last time I need four clones and took two branches from the bottom and made four cuts out of it. You can do segmented clones from one branch so I guess you could top but wouldn’t recommend it.

4 to 6 inches tall is ideal. Shorter is fine but I wouldn’t go much taller. Another important variable is girth. You want them as short and thick as possible for the best start. You do not want much growth during the rooting process under low light as the growth with be thin and elongated.
