Does anyone use Salicylic acid for there Cannabis Plants?

Is there anything I should be Leary of? Or just enjoy the extra THC and terpenes!?

Salicylic acid (SA) is a naturally occurring plant hormone that plays a role in cannabis plant defense and growth. It can be applied exogenously as a spray, soak, or added to soil to enhance the plant’s natural defenses against stress and pathogens. Research suggests that salicylic acid can also influence the production of secondary metabolites like cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis.

Here’s a more detailed look at salicylic acid and its effects on cannabis:

    1. Plant Defense and Stress Response:

  • Salicylic acid is a signaling molecule that triggers the plant’s “systemic acquired resistance” (SAR). This means it helps the plant become more resistant to diseases and other stressors.
  • Applying salicylic acid can reduce the need for pesticides by boosting the plant’s natural defenses.
  • It can also help plants cope with abiotic stresses like drought and temperature fluctuations.
  • 2. Influence on Secondary Metabolites:

  • Salicylic acid can influence the production of cannabinoids (like THC and CBD) and terpenes in cannabis.
  • Studies have shown that foliar application of salicylic acid can increase the levels of cannabinoids in cannabis plants.
  • It can also affect the activity of enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of these compounds.
  • 3. Practical Applications:

  • Salicylic acid can be applied to cannabis plants at different stages of growth, including during propagation, vegetative growth, and flowering.
  • It can be used as a foliar spray, a root drench, or added to hydroponic solutions.
  • While effective in promoting plant health and potentially increasing cannabinoid production, it’s important to use salicylic acid at appropriate concentrations to avoid negative effects.

I’m definitely going to be doing more research on this. I would love to try.

Scotty talked about this on something posted recently. I think the real growers channel but maybe the chat with Dude. Was lit; can’t recall lol – anyhoo he mentioned this, silica, and something else for positive feedback for terps iirc. Again, was very stoned so best to verify that haha

        acetylsalicylic acid is not silica.

if you search on youtube for ‘scotty real silica’ or ‘dude grows show silica’ you’ll find about a handful of videos and more from others. It’s a good start for the basics. Just need to remember some of them are quite old and there has been some research about it in the last years

acetylsalicylic acid is not silica. It’s found in Willow bark.

@stillsmokinone you are 100% right. that’s on me, I’m sorry, I read silicic acid. Salicylic acid is aspirin. the only thing I know is that willow tree bark teas are used as ‘root booster’. that’s what people used in the old days to start seedlings and even clones and not just in the context of cannabis

Aloe Vera leaves (the gel inside) contains salycitic acid.

      I use it to clone.

Cut a filet (leaf) off, slide the trimmed cutting stem into the gel and lightly pinch the leaf to the stem.

The inside is rough and you can feel it scuffing the stem.

      Works like a champ.

Thanks, ya I know it’s a rooting agent, but more interested in this… Research suggests that salicylic acid can also influence the production of secondary metabolites like cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis.

Iv been using monosilic acid this run. Just a couple drops in a 5 gallon bucket of water at a time. Then I ph before adding to the real bucket resivoir.

Best run yet. But I have made a couple of changes this run so? Im still learning and each run is better than the last.
