Scrog training and trellis net install

Just wondering when the appropriate time is to install a trellis net during veg? I just started week 7 and have been doing a bunch of LST for 2 weeks now. I topped once at week 3 and then have been bending down the branches not longer after that. The plants are very short. About 7 to 8 inches tall and growing very nicely. Just not sure when to install the net and how high above the plant. Any advice would be great.

In the photo below I have just installed the trellis net, but have been moving it out of the way to train and water the plants for the last few days. I also just did a second topping of the laterals today. So I know the plants will take a few days to recover and send out more shoots.

  • I’m not going to be able to give you an answer but I might be able to help you find one for yourself. do you have access from more than one side? if not don’t put it so low you can’t get in there to train, scout and water etc. is height an issue? think about stretch, where do you want them at the end? some people use them from super early and scrog them out during veg. I like to let them grow up a bit to leave myself a crawl space. Can we see the space from further back?

    • Thanks. Yeah they are pretty low to the ground already. They are in 5 gallon fabric pots and raised up a bit on saucer stands. But the plants themselves are so low that there would be no crawl space if I scrogged now. I think I’ll wait til I flip to flower and let them stretch a bit. I’m just not sure how much they will stretch. Guess I will wait and see. I’m guessing that if they triple in height I will end up with a plant that is 24 to 28 inches from soil level. I could scrog halfway through the stretch. I really like being about to pull the pots out and clean the saucers off if I get runoff. Or I guess I could just not Scrog at all and see how that goes. There are just these two plants in a 4 x 4
