Hey guys been loving the youtube shows and just signed up! Hoping someone can drop some knowledge on me please. I’ve been growing from clones for about 2 years exclusively and I just had a seedling fail and I’m looking for pointers for my next attempt. I’m going to be using Dakine organic based coco coir blend. Is it okay to plant my seed with the tap root showing directly into this medium? If possible I’d like to cut out the rockwall unless someone can explain why I shouldn’t? These are the contents from the bag “alaskan peat moss, perlite, compost, montmorillonite, worm castings, fish bone meal, bat guano, kelp meal, endomycorrhizae, and beneficial bacteria”

I just wanted to be sure I don’t need to do anything else to this coco before my next attempt. Am I good to just plant my tap root exposed seed next time and avoid using the rockwall? As far as I understand I just need to rehydrate the coco with spring water only or can I use reverse osmosis? Do I need to PH the water I’m using to hydrate my coco? Any and all pointers are appreciated and I hope you all are having a great night!

You don’t need an inert media like rockwool to start seedlings. Going right into a lightly amended soil is ok. There’s nothing too ‘hot’ in your soil mix like blood meal that would harm a seedling.

Your excited and getting ahead of yourself. I really think you should spend some time watching the how to videos and get a better understanding of what your doing.

I don’t mean to discourage or sound harsh. But from your question, you really should study up more. Crack a book. Don’t just rely on what you’ve hear online.

I wish you all the best and I look forward to seeing your future grows.

    Happy growing

Honestly I may be wrong for this but I just use tap water. I can’t afford all the other fancy stuff for the water. Granted my City tap water is supposed to be some of the best in Canada.

Be sure you’re using a good pre-buffered coco, or are buffering yours! I personally like some coco and about a teaspoon of growdots in a solo cup to start seedlings, but then I also grow in coco, so that works out well for me.

There is no need for the rockwool. I soak my seed for 24 hrs in a shot glass just to soften the hull. Then I plant my seed in me medis with a humidity dome. The domw is the top cut off a two liter clear bottle with 2 or 3 1/6 inch holes in the bottom/now top. I look at the condensation in the bottle. If it starts to dwindle I water around the base of the bottle never removing the dome. Once I see some true leaves the dome comes of. I water in concentric circles ever expanding outward to promote root growth. I use aloe harvested from a mature aloe plant in my water. After the third node a little recharge works wonders.

personally i’ve been just using those generic jiffy pucks soaked in warm water. put those under a little starter dome kit and usually 99 percent success. they hold a good amount of water and just spritz with spray bottle till they are hitting the domes roof. then into the coco/perlite they go. general hydro or flora flex the rest of the way. recharge typically causes negative stress reaction so no longer using it.
