Supplementing CO2! How?
Posted by ClubpluG on July 9, 2025 at 8:21 amYall what’s the most cost efficient, yet most affective way to supplement CO2 in both a 2×4 as well as a 5×5. Im ambient around 500ppm in my room.

Mushroom bags work pretty good. My buddy has a 5×5 and he has 2 of the xl mushroom bags and my co2 meter measures about 1300+ every time. I run the 365 mushroom bags in my 4×4 tents and get mine close to that but it takes 3-4 of them. In my 5×10 I run a co2 regulator controlled by ac infinity ai controller. But that’s not cheap to get into. But so far the regulator has been cheaper if you count just tank swaps.

Dude you notice CO2 levels differing much from day to day? As you were supplementing?

Plants want a stable environment over everything. You need a controller to maintain the levels during the day or don’t bother.

So even if I supplement with CO2 bags and I can read the data, I won’t at all benefit from CO2 bags? I need a CO2 tank and regulator before I see any benefits?

Plants want a steady consistent environment.

Cannabis leaves do not form stomata based on leaf size but on the available amount of carbon in the air. Nature is programmed to be efficient. Low (ambient) CO2 levels and the leaves will form a high number of stomata to capture as much as possible. High CO2 environments cause leaves to form far less stomata than in an ambient environment for this reason as well. You can use this to your advantage going from veg to flower. Maintain ambient levels between 300-500 PPM during veg and the plant leaves will form a ton of stomata so when you flip to flower you can increase the levels (1000-1500 PPM) and watch growth explode through the transition. Fluctuating levels will confuse the plant and slow overall growth. This is why a stable environment is crucial. Your plants will perform best when all the environmental variables are stable with little dead-band 24/7.
CO2 controllers are very affordable these days. You can buy CO2 tanks if you’re in an area where that’s convenient but you can burn propane to generate CO2 very stealth. I live in the south where heat is an issue so I use a water-cooled CO2 generator (cheap portable hot water heater) drain to waste in my flower rooms. You’d put it in your lung room the tent is in and exchange air between room and tent. This is what I use.

Verrrryyyy useful information. Im not a surface level understander. I need to know how things break down and the system things work in. Thank you for words of wisdom!

My set up doesn’t lend itself to implementing CO2 supplement. I do however need to cycle the air at a high rate. In doing so, I’m thinking that there is always as much available ambiently as possible. Sure if the environment is pushed CO2 heavy I would think it may force that exchange at the stigmata. I wonder though where the cost vs rewards lands. If there is way to duel purpose or passively add that is 100% a win love the hot water heater. I have a Janitrol propane heater that heats the space passively helping. Anyway that is something I have always wondered where that balance is. Exchange vs Sealed with CO2

It doesn’t work that way. Been apart of large indoor grow constructions and HVAC professionals can explain why its a waste of money in a grow tent. I also tried to convince myself it would work like a lot of us do given that we must manage with the grow spaces we have.

Do you have a way to measure amount of co2 with and without to see if it makes a significant difference. I am interested it very much but from speaking with HVAK professionals who built some large indoors out here in Humboldt county and just interested in my grow tent and said the entire apartment would need to have completely new insulation put in and every seem crack and doorways being the worst which indoors have those freezer type doors to each grow room to keep things controlled. The amount of oxygen to carbon is a very large percentage and be 1% or 2% difference if at all. I would love to run one however but not worth the funds to have something i am only convincing myself works like many of us growers.

I use a 3in x6in unscented candle in a coffee can it will bring it up to 1200 to 1300.
