Too soon to transplant?

I made an error in starting my seeds and didn’t readjust my light after removing the dome to harden them off. They stretched a bit much before i corrected my hindsight. They all have roots coming out of the bottom of the pots they are in, but have become tippy. The transplant will remedy the stretch as i can bury part of the stem. They are 9 days out of the soil. Should I transplant now, or wait a bit?

My experience tells me if there is enough root mass to hold the soil together when you tip the plant out, and the width of the plant has grown beyond the edge of the pot, it’s time to transplant to a larger container.

i would keep them supported and drop the light down to about 12 inches at low power for another 2 weeks since your container looks bigger than a solo cup

They are about half the size of a solo cup… about 1 cup of soil.

My ppfd is at 500 at the leaves…..i got the light dialed in, as I originally stated, before they got out of control. Thank you for your input.

Keep them in there and just keep them propped up. They could stay in those pots for a while. It’s okay if the roots come out. An advantage of fabric pots is that they will air prune the roots, promoting more mass. So when they come out the holes in plastic pots or a cup with holes that part of the root will die and send that growth hormone back into the other roots. Same effect as what fabric pots do. They’d only keep growing out if they were in a water source.

This one was in a solo cup for almost 4 full weeks before I moved it.

Silica helps make stems stronger too. And this is the root mass in while in the cup just before I transplanted

I mean realistically they could live out their entire life in those containers if you really wanted to. Kinda how SOG is done, small containers but a lot of them at a time. I always have one going that’s a “just for fun” grow and I always grow it out in a small container, like in an old empty 1qt fox farm nutrient bottle lol or pringles can. But yeah they’ll be good for another like 4 or 5+ weeks. I’d give them at least 2 more before you transplant.

Limiting root space limits plant structure. Don’t leave your seeds or clones in a solo cup longer than 10-14 days for best results. Leaves are no indication of plant structure, as they’ll look perfectly healthy on a thin, wispy, scraggly branch. Everything you did today and yesterday affects the plant’s future whether you realize it or not. Rootbound plants loose all structure. Stem girth gets thin instead of thicker, internodal spacing elongates on branches, etc.

Perfect. I’ll look to transplant this weekend as i will be in that 10 to 14 day window. They’re going into my SIP’s with 10 gallons of soil. Last thing I want to do is slow down their roll.

Seedlings with an unestablished root system are good for 14 to 20 days (when it’s got 5-7 bladed leaves). I’d never even put a well rooted clone in a solo cup, but if you did, 10 days max.

No. It was from seed. Thank you.

Transplant went well. Day 11 from seed. Easy street from here. (Crossing my fingers)
